Default Surprising viewpoint at UFC 80

I was very surprised during the Lambert/Gouveia fight. Joe Rogan, who is supposed to be a BJJ advocate, must have been so stoned that he forgot all his jui-jitsu training.

Rogan constantly talks about how the judging system is flawed and doesn't really account for the ways BJJ guys should be scoring points.

Wilson Gouveia was doing a lot more on the bottom, than Lambert was with his overhyped punching power. Rogan was blabbing domination while Wilson had a cool, relaxed look on his face. Sure he may have been absorbing a few blows, but he was constantly tieing up the hands, pushing him off balance and was very active in going for sweeps and submissions. Jason Lambert never scored a take down (because Wilson took it to the ground with his guillotine attempts) and didn't seem to phase Wilson with any his punches.

Domination? Maybe Joe just has a crush on Lambert and his weird man boobs.

Thats a good point, I don't see how Lambert was dominating when Gouveia locked in a triangle among other moves from the bottom. The commentary last night was pretty uneven, I'm still laughing at Rogan for insisting it was leg kicks that finished Robinson

I gave Lambert the first round but in no way was it dominating, I could tell the whole time that he would eventually lose the fight. Wilson will pose alot of problems for people in that division becuase he is so well rounded and likes to finish fights.

At most, Lambert had the dominant position, but he wasn't giving Wilson a beating by any means.

Has Lambert every commented on a drop to 185?
he should really consider it! he'd be a beast down there and i wouldnt be surprised if he got himself into title contention at 185.

Lambert could lose all of that weight and make 185 easily I imagine.

Default Joe under the microscope

I think it's strange how some fans hang off of every word that comes out of Joe's mouth. Ok, the round wasn't dominating so much as he was in the dominant position (as was said earlier). Poor choice of words and one that I didn't really even catch.

What I did notice was Joe commenting on how aggressive and confident Lambert looked (which he did) and he gave credit for doing a great job avoiding damage from the bottom (which he did) and the submission attempts from Gouveia. He gave him props for the triangle attempt and the omaplata attempts. But that's all they were, attempts. Lambert wasn't in danger any time (Until Gouveia dropped him) and controlled the action in the first round.

Gouveia only went for the guillotine attempts as an answer to Lambert's pressure and both times Lambert popped his head out to find himself in a dominant position.

I think people at times can be over critical of Joe's call. Do I agree with him all the time, no, of course not. He's under a microscope where we analyze every word that comes ouf of his mouth. Overall I enjoy his comments and in this case I thought he called the Lambert fight just fine. Cut the guy a break.

i was thinking both Lambert and gouveia could make 185. i am not saying he should however he just doesn't look all that big to me for 205.

And they said that he fought jon fitch so i just assumed it was likely at 185?
