Default Next for UFC 80 fighters

((All UFC 80 fights in bold and all winners in red.))
B.J. Penn vs. Joe Stevenson

BJ Penn vs. Sean Sherk- This fight needs no explanation.

Joe Steveson vs. Diego Sanchez(regardless of the outcome of Sanchez's next fight)- This is a matchup that fans have been discussing since the finale of TUF 2. With Diego talking about dropping to 155, this matchup is a very real possibility.

Gabriel Gonzaga vs. Fabricio Werdum

Fabricio Werdum vs. Brandon Vera- Both fighters are around the same weight and build and I think this fight has the potential to be FOTN. Plus I don't think Werdum has really earned a title shot. This is a fight that would have very serious implications on the next UFC HW title challenger. If Werdum wins this fight than he gets a tite shot regardless of the Nog/Sylvia fight. If Vera wins than he only gets a title shot if Nog is the champ.

Gabriel Gonzaga vs. Cheick Kongo- The winner of this fight would be right back in the HW title hunt.

Kendall Grove vs. Jorge Rivera

Jorge Rivera vs. winner of Cote/McFedries- This would be an exciting fight and would most likely make either Cote or McFedries look really good. If Rivera however ends up winning, than he proves that he belongs in the UFC and that he is for real.

Kendall Grove vs. Terry Martin- Both fighters are coming off losses and both have questionable chins. This would be a decent fight and would put the winner back on a the right track in the UFC.

Marcus Davis vs. Jess Liaudin

Marcus Davis vs. Luke Cummo- This would be a good fight and good test for Marcus. Cummo is a step up in competition for him and is someone that I think would prove just how overated he truly is.

Jess Liaudin vs. John Kolosci- This is a fight that would be exciting and both fighters are about on the same level as each other.

Gouvvia vs. Lambert

Gouvvia vs. winner of Bonnar/Hamill- This is a fight that could make a good UFN main event. It'd be a good fight and would set the winner up for better things to come.

Lambert vs. Kazuhiro Nakamura-Both are top 20 fighters and a win for either fighter would be a good win that would put them back on the right track.

Paul Kelly vs. Paul Taylor

Paul Kelly vs. Jon Koppenhaver- This would be a great fight for a future UFN.

Paul Taylor vs. Jared Rollins- Winner goes on to do better things. Loser goes back to the drawing board. Plus this would be a decent fight.

Sam Stout vs. Per Eklund

Sam Stout vs. Spencer Fisher- Why not go ahead and have the rubbermatch? It'd make a for another great fight and would be a good UFN main event.

Per Eklund vs. Wayne Weems- Wayne deserves a shot back in the UFC. If he wins he can stay, if not he has to go back to the smaller shows.

Antoni Hardonk vs. Colin Robinson

Antoni Hardonk vs. Brock Lesnar(regardless of the outcome of the Mir fight.)- This would be the classic striker vs. grappler match. This is also a fight that would make Lesnar look good in my opinion.

Colin Robinson vs. Soa Palelei- Winner stays, loser goes. It's that simple.

Alessio Sakara vs. James Lee

Alessio Sakara vs. Loser of McCarthy/Bisping- This would be a decent fight and would probably end in KO.

James Lee vs. Seth Petruzelli- Seth is an exciting fighter and deserves another shot in the UFC. This would be an all or nothing type fight for him though.

First let me say, cool thread. I dig it.

I think you are right. AA aside, Werdum needs another fight. I almost don't even care WHO it is... but being 1-1 (with that one win being over a guy who just lost and is still a questionable top ten fighter, if he even IS one in anyone's mind at this point) in the UFC and getting a title shot and crazy. Hell, if Mir beats Lesnar, I almost think he deserves a shot over Werdum

Gonzaga losing two in a row, and then, for beating Kongo gets put back in the title picture? I can't say I agree with that.

In regards to what I quoted, Sanchez has already stated he will not be moving down to 155 and he is fighting Roan Carnicero soon.

As far as Kongo not being in a the title hunt if he beats Gonzaga. I disagree. I'm not saying if he won that fight he should be a number one contender, I'm just saying he should be in the hunt. I mean if a guy who is 1-1 in the UFC right now is getting a shot, than how can you say that Kongo wouldn't at least be in title contention with a win over Gonzaga?

Also as far as Sanchez staying at 170. He just stated that his next fight was going to be at 170, he never ruled out the possibility of moving down to 155.

^ Agreed with Ramma, great thread.

For Sam Stout - he has already signed to fight Rich Clementi at UFC 84.

Think I read something the other day about his deciding to stay at 170. Granted, it doesn't mean he will never ever consider it again; but it does mean that the indecision he had after the Fitch fight was settled and he determined to stay at WW.

I would like to see Paul Kelly vs Matt Arroyo.

Kelly looked really good, but against a guy with a lackluster ground game

so i would love to see how he does against a guy like arroyo. A brown Belt in BJJ who pulls off really quick subs.

Plus It would be nice to see some more of Arroyo's stand up lol

I will say that took a lot of effort an good job.

BUT do you ever check to see when some of those fighters are fighting next lol.

Kongo is going to be fighting Herring.

If he beats Herring why should he have to fight Gabe. Gabe has lost 2 in a row, Gabe don't deserve Kongo.

Maybe Herring vs Gabe if Herring loses. Even if Kongo loses to Herring Kongo still shouldn't have to fight Gabe.

Diego is fighting Roan.

Wilson would have to set out about 6 months or so to wait for the winner of the Matt Bonnar fight. So i don't see that happening, figuring Wilson will probably fight in April or May.

Also if Bonnar wins i expect to see him get his rematch with Evans or Jardine.

Terry Martian has a fight coming up.

Grove just needs to leave UFC or fight cans because anyone with power will knock him out.

Davis don't need to fight Cummo, I dislike Davis but there has been enough pussy footing around he needs to fight top comp and Cummo just isn't it.

Sam Stout already has a fight booked for Canada ppv.

Why should Werdum have to fight Vera he is already getting a title shot and without AA's clear future no one deserves it above him.

Penn vs Sherk
Wilson vs Jardine - Wilson has earned it.
Davis vs Swick - Thats if Swick beats Burkman
Joe Daddy vs Frankie Edgar - not sure if Edgar has a upcoming fight.
Hardonk vs Eddie Sanchez. - Eddie always wants to bang and Hardonk will be that guy.
Grove vs Leben - I love to watch Grove get knocked out.
Gabe vs Mirko - Mirko needs motivation and i want everyone to see that was luck. Plus i dislike Gabe and don't think he is any good outside of bjj.

As for Vera i see him getting a almost cupcake fight when he comes back. Right now UFC needs contenders.

as for Kongo he is 4-1 in the UFC and a win against Herring would make him 5-1 and that would make him a title contender if Tim wins the belt. Tim wants Kongo. Kongo was in line for a title fight but they made Nog vs Tim instead.

Gabe deserves to start off at the bottom of the pile. IMO he needs about 3-4 fights before his name is even considered in a title fight.

Werdum = i'd like to see him face Sylvia, but that's not going to happen.

Gonzaga = a match with Kongo would be good

Penn = obviously Sherk, if he wins, id like to see him face Gomi

Stevenson = Tough fighter for sure. i'd give him Guida.
