The one standout fight Sean finished? A corner stoppage over a 19 year old Parisyan, [Sherk was 28 at the time], back in 2001. To give him credit, Sean also opened a cut on a 21 year old Benji Radach in 2002. Sherk was 29 at the time.
Against anyone even remotely B level and above, he grinds out the decision. Note, Manny Gamburyan--perhaps the only fighter in the UFC who can make Sherk look tall--took Sherk to a decision. Sean was 28 and had twice the fights that the 20 year old Manny had.
Sherk might have statistics that indicate he finished fights, but he doesn't have anything that indicates he finishes fighters.
He has more cans in his record than a goddamn grocery store.
rh | Beautifully put. His record is brimming over with absolute nobodies. Hysterical.

At any rate, Penn's win proved he has what it takes.

Combined record of Sherk's defeated opponents W 248 L 193*
Combined record of Penn's defeated opponents W 209 L 64
Penn has never fought a fighter with a losing record.
Sherk has fought too many to list, but a few standouts are: Jason Purcell [W 15, L 29], Mark Long [W 17, L 26], and Lee King [W 7, L 12]. Interestingly, Ryuki Ueyama [W 7, L 11] took Sean all the way to a decision.
So, no, I'm not buying any statistic that indicates that Sean Sherk finishes fighters.

*if you take away the guys who brought him to a decision, its something like W 162 to L 140.

Sherk Is Hughes Lite, and for all of his greatness in being the most dominant champ the UFC hs ever seen, even he was outclassed on the ground against BJ.
The fact that BJ suffered an injury in their 2nd fight is the only thing that kept Hughes from being beaten by BJ again.
I think BJ wins this fight and I think he does it as easily as he did when he beat Jens Pulver, on the feet Sherk hs nothing for BJ, and I dnt think he has anythng for him on the ground either.
Maybe Im wrong, but were gonna findd out sooner rather than later, and i for 1 cant wait

i like how much smack both sides have been talking building up to this fight. i don't think sherk is ever really going to live this fight down if he loses. if he doesn't win, his whole presence in the lw division will be a bit of a waste.

Don't get me wrong, penn is great, but he has been talkin 2 much shit and sherk is gettin pissed. In my opinion, sherk is kinda like the hulk, u wouldn't like him when he's angry.
