They're just setting up a future Fedor/Barnett match.
Aleks loses to Barnett, it sets up a bad blood match between Fedor and Barnett in the future. They're trying to provide the organization with a bit more longevity instead of burning out within the first 6 months of 08.

I agree with most of these posts. If M1 has Barnett, there should be no hesitation to sign FEDOR v. Barnett.
MAYBE, they are hoping that Barnett with beat Aleks, then they can set up a "blood feud" between Fedor and Barnett, but I doubt it.
I really think they are just protecting Fedor.
If Barnett wins against Aleks and Fedor wins his fight that night, and they don't fight each other at a future event, there can be no denying that M1 is just protecting Fedor.

Fedor and Aleks should switch opponents. Isnt Fedor fighting Schilt or Rizzo or something like that? I would rather watch Aleks fight one of those two and Fedor take on Josh.

Sounds like you are hoping their aim is to protect Fedor so people can continue to moan about it.

I fully and honestly admit that I swing from Fedor's nuts like a bad case of circus crabs, but even am I am getting sick of this freakshow shit.
I am willing to allow M1 to build up their talent pool, but if Fedor doesn't fight a quality opponent by January 2009, it will be beyond obvious they are protecting him.
I remember the good old days when we would sit around and have Chicago Bear-like discussions about Fedor. Who would win:
Fedor versus a Fedor clone that is 5 years younger - Draw - Each Fedor would pull an armbar at the exact same moment and we would reach the third round in a armbar stalemate
Fedor versus Godzilla - Not if Fedor would win but would it be by ground'n'pound or tailbar?
And so on and so on...
**SIGH**

I'm just saying that if they signed this fight for any other reason than to build hype for FEDOR v. BARNETT, then they are just protecting Fedor.
I agree, it will build some hype if Barnett beats Aleks, and then Fedor fights Barnett. However, if Fedor beats Sammy and Barnett beats Aleks, the next event should feature Fedor v. Barnett. If it doesn't, they are only protecting Fedor.

If they didn't want to book Fedor vs. Barnett eventually, why even bring Josh into the fold? I'm just saying, your assumption doesn't dovetail with promotional reality.
As for Schilt, I think MMAJunkie has things mixed up, the last report I saw indicated they want to hold that Fedor vs. Schilt rematch for a later date in Holland... it sounded like Rizzo and Monson are the two most likely candidates for this first US event.
