If lesnar comes out overly aggresive and gets sloppy, mir will catch him in a sub. Lesnar needs to fight a smart fight and he will wear mir down and tko him. Im saying ref stoppage late in the 2nd round. Lesnar FTMFW.

My gut says Mir. | I agree man, until we see Brock in there with some stiff comp like this it's hard to judge his level of talent. It's going to be interesting to see where he's at.
My gut says Mir as well, but I wouldn't be able to put money on either, unless the line on Mir is at least 2-1 then I'd have to go with it.

If both had been training for the same amount of time, I'd probably take Brock. But I just can't justify picking him when he's been doing BJJ for a year at the most, when Frank Mir is a legit black belt. And I'll take technique over strength.
What would really be a ironic is if somehow Lesnar sub'd Mir, lol.

From what I've seen and read about Brock Lesnar, he has a great attitude, has been listening to his trainers, and has been working his ass off for the last 2 years to prepare for fighting in MMA. He already has a very solid wrestling background, has been working very hard on his standup, his ground game, his clinches, his takedowns, his defense, and has managed to fit in some muay thai training too. For a guy his size, he is extremely agile, light on his feet, and fast as hell. And all of the people he has been training with have had nothing but positive stuff to say about him, and he's been training with some pretty talented people.
Hell...let's face it - the guy's a beast. (Dick dagger tattoo or not...lol)
On the other hand , Frank Mir is certainly no can. His stand up is pretty good, he's pretty good in the clinches, at take downs, at defense, and his ground game is top notch. Plus he has way more experience in MMA than Brock. And he is a former world champion with a very impressive list of wins over some damn tough guys.
So here we have an older ex-champion trying to make a comeback going up against a more agile, aggressive, hungrier, eager, younger newcomer. And I doubt seriously if Brock is going to be affected much by it being his first time in the octagon because he is used to performing in front of thousands of screaming fans and on live TV with cameras and lights all over him from his time in the WWE as a "world champion" pro wrestler.
I guess a lot depends on whether Frank Mir brings his A game into the octagon and if Brock has absorbed enough to run with the big dogs in the UFC.
Me personally - I'm leaning towards Brock. I think a lot of people are not taking him seriously because of his time in the WWE and his failed attempt at getting into pro football. The guy is very humble and is also very focused and motivated. He's fast as lightening, strong as an ox, as flexible and agile as guys half his size, and hits like a freakin' sledgehammer. And Mir just hasn't showed much motivation for a long time.
Either way, it's not going to be an easy fight for either guy and should be well worth watching.

I dont get how so many people think lesnar will win... must be wrestling fans
Of course Im not ruling anything out. Lesnar could pull out a boring decision with some lnp. He is really strong, ill give him that. If he has been training a lot of bjj defense he might be able to keep Mir on his back for a while
Lesnar has had one mma fight, against a can. The only reason he is getting as much attention as he is, is because he is already famous.
He doesnt deserve to fight Mir.

ok i said lesner and personaly i dont like him but i do respect him. all the real fighters in here like oh i dont know uber for example why dont you fight lesner. im betting if that fight was offered to you you would turn it down not from a moral high point but from the fact you would not want to face his strength. he is going to hurt mir and i like mir but lesner is going to hurt him. the only way mir wins is by leg lock or by knock out cause lesner is to strong to armbar and his neck is really thick so choking him would be tough. my prediction is mir shoots before lesner and that lesner wins by tko ref stopage in the 2nd either do to cut or do to ko.

Its an interesting fight in my mind. Mir with stellar BJJ and Lesnar with some great wrestling. I think it would be cool to see Lesnar win, but I love Mir. So as long as I see a good fight, i don't necessarily care who wins.
And whats up with somebody saying "Brock Lesnar might be overhyped"? Can you honestly say that at this point, considering he has yet to fight in the octagon and prove anything? That statement cannot possibly be made, due to the fact that there was no point of reference so to speak. You can't go by his first (and only) fight, because it was more or less a joke. There wasn't nearly as much hype about it then as there is now. Let him step into the octagon. See how he fares. Then you saying he might be overhyped has the POTENTIAL to be justified. =\

This fight is really tough to call. I'm leaning towards Mir due to his experience, but Brock is a tank.... who knows, this is a fight I definitely wouldn't bet on. Either guy could lay down an asskicking. Really interested to see this one. |
