in theory but fighters are signed to deals with showtime or hbo. also they have their promoters and the organizations such as wbo ibf also say who fights who.

Yeah boxing isn't worse than MMA in my opinion. There is a ton of politics with the sanctioning bodies, promoters, TV networks, etc. But for the most part HBO has the talent, the PPV market opens up the interpromotional fights. I remember Tyson-Lewis, but christ didn't HBO and Showtime come together for Mayweather-Judah too? That's nowhere near the size fight I thought it'd take for them to co-promote an event, but sure enough they did it. But like dude said, there hasn't been an UNDISPUTED champion in MMA since PRIDE came along. In MMA the level of talent is split almost right down the middle, with a bigger piece of the pie going to PRIDE obviously.

it be different for everything to be just MMA thought cuz UFC fights in an octagon and everyone else fights in a ring under diff. rules too.. in boxing everything just about the same, the rules differ from fight to fight anyways but all the fights are in a ring.. it be more diffifcult to unify MMA completely.

Eh, not necessarily. More organizations use a cage than a ring if I'm not mistaken. But other than that it's really just a matter of going with either the elbow attack on the ground, or the knees/soccer stomps. There's arguments in favor of each, knees/soccer stomps will probably never be allowed in the U.S. At least not until SportsCenter is running highlights of MMA every morning (aka - the sport is 100% accepted and there's no fear of it being shut down for being too brutal and bloodsport-like). Elbows cause cuts which stop fights inconclusively. Other than that, there really isn't much difference in the rules anywhere.

i've noticed that the ufc has become a little more hestitant to stop the fight over a cut.neer vs. melvin is a good example a few years ago that fight would've been stopped.
i prefer elbows over knees on the ground.
