It's funny, since you brought up the octagon/ring thing. Has anyone else heard that UFC is legally trying to get the NSAC and CSAC to allow only their company to use an octagon shaped cage for MMA bouts? That's kinda nutty.

you should try to watch that fight.i saw it on unleashed i think it was a prelim fight on some card.good fight neer has a lot of heart to come back from what happened to him in that fight.blood was pouring down his face getting in his eyes and he still found a way to pull out the victory.-triangle choke i believe.

The Neer/Guillard fight should have been stopped in my opinion. The cut was even worse than when Florian opened Leben up on TUF.

Granted, nothing but respect for Neer to continue on. Guillard smelled blood and went for the kill and made a mistake. Neer toughed it out and choked him out something fierce.

99% of the time though, I think that fight gets stopped. Considering the location and severity of the cut, I am still suprised. They have stopped fights for much less.

i'm glad they didn't stop the fight.if the fighter wants to keep fighting let him fight.he's not going to get hurt that bad-nothing a few stitches can't fix.

Vision problems, although I don't remember anything about that fight so maybe that wasn't an issue with that particular cut.

"if the fighter wants to keep fighting let him fight.he's not going to get hurt that bad-nothing a few stitches can't fix."

I was talking about that quote. Obviously you already knew why they stop fights on cuts, but yeah it shouldn't be in every case if the fighter wants to keep fighting let him go no matter what in terms of cut stoppages. Sometimes you simply have to stop the fight because of a cut. I don't recall the Neer-Guillard fight, so that's what I was saying about not knowing if that fight was one where it should've been stopped. It sounds like he went back in and won quickly, so that the cut wasn't really a factor in terms of risking serious injury on himself. But you can't assume a fighter is going to go in and win without taking more punishment to the already cut eye and if it's bad enough you can't take that risk you have to stop the fight. So in all cases, no. In that particular case? I can't say I don't remember it or the cut much at all.

from what ive heard the UFC already has a trademark on the octagon as its property. i dont know if only they can use it now but it wouldnt be up to the nsac or csac to decide it would be up to the courts and the trademarks. thats why the wec and wfa use a pentagon and round cage respectivly and i think someone else uses a six sided cage. im pretty sure the ufc already has the trademark on that.

I think the trademark is promoting your events as being held in an octagon, or referring to your cage as an octagon. Obviously they don't have a full trademark on MMA events using octagons, as many other sanctioned events have had them. Rumble on the Rock jumps out at me right off the bat. I believe Strikeforce was in an eight-sided cage as well.
