| Nick Thompson on Sherk/Penn, GSP, Karo, Lesnar, and more. Quote:
Bodog welterweight champion Nick "The Goat" Thompson talks about his recent win over John Troyer as well as his future plans as he decides which organization he hopes to continue his current winning streak with. You don't want to miss what he had to say about some of his teammates, including Brock Lesnar's recent loss to Frank Mir as well as Sean Sherk's eagerly anticipated clash with BJ Penn. Plus, check out what he had to say about Karo Parisyan, Georges St-Pierre and more.
PC: Congratulations on your win over John Troyer.
NT: Thank you.
PC: How do you feel about your performance?
NT: Like every fight, I feel there are some things I could have done better, but overall, I am happy with my performance.
PC: 10 wins in a row, all by submission or knockout. What got you so pissed off (laughing)?
NT: Losing.
PC: Your last loss comes against Karo Parisyan. What did you learn from that fight and what are the keys to your consistency of late?
NT: I learned that I wasn't that good and I needed to train harder. I also learned the cost of being tentative or intimidated.
PC: Troyer had won 8 straight and you gave him his first loss. What did you know about him coming into this fight and did he surprise you in any way during the fight?
NT: Not a whole lot. I had seen video on him, but since he had not fought top competition, it was hard to asses how good he was. I suspected that he was strong and would be aggressive…and he was strong and did come out aggressive. One thing that I did not expect that surprised me was how tough he was. I hit him with some brutal shots and he responded every time.
PC: Eddie Alvarez told me he would love to get that blemish off of his record. Is that a fight you would entertain or have you moved on?
NT: I don't care one way or the other.
PC: What would you like to do next and when can we expect to see you fight again?
NT: I am getting a few intriguing offers. WVR has made me an offer that I am strongly considering. HCF has made me a very competitive offer. And lastly, Bodog has made a generous offer to re-sign me. Wherever I go, you can expect to see me fighting soon. I would like to be back in the ring by March.
PC: I know you cut a ton of weight to make 170. Is a move up in weight in the near future or will you keep gutting it out?
NT: No. I am happy at 170 lbs.
PC: You recently said you didn't think you were ready for Georges St-Pierre. Do you think he's the best welterweight in the world?
NT: I think that when he has his best day, he is the best fighter in the world.
PC: You are a free agent now and have expressed your desire to fight in Japan. Is that still the case?
NT: Yeah. Fighting in Japan is something I am definitely interested in.
PC: I know you didn't agree with Lesnar's first opponent in the UFC. How did you think he looked and do you think he can learn from this?
NT: You never want to see a teammate lose, but I did see a lot of positives in that fight. Brock knocked Mir down with a nice straight right. He also overwhelmed Mir on the ground and may have ended the fight if not for a poor stand-up. One thing I would like to see Brock do is to relax a little bit. If he picked his shots a little more, I think he would be more effective – especially given how hard he hits.
PC: Sean Sherk is finally getting his opportunity to fight BJ Penn. Do you think Sherk will destroy him?
NT: No. Penn is tough and I don't see anyone destroying him. I do see Sean outworking him and recapturing his title.
PC: You guys have a pretty solid team over there. How is it over there with all of you top guys ripping each other up every day?
NT: It's an unreal experience. I get to spar against Muay Thai champions, wrestle against national champions and grapple against black belts. I am still learning something new on a daily basis.
PC: Good luck in whatever decision you decide to make. It doesn't appear the UFC is in the near future, but you're a hell of a fighter and I just want to see you somewhere my man. Keep me posted. Is there anything you would like to say in closing?
NT: Thanks for having me and thank you to American Fighter, Gamma-O, Hypoxico Altitude Systems and TapouT.

I think Nick is right, and that Sherk can out work Penn, IF he doesn't get caught in a submission...

Surprised he didn't have more to say on Alvarez. He's got good momentum going though. Hope he jumps back into the UFC or goes to EliteXC.
