I have a feeling something was lost in translation here. My only basis for this is that Okami has never struck me as a 'shit-talker', and I've never heard him say so much as a derogatory word about anyone.
Implying that giving up and tapping quickly is the "american style" just doesn't make sense coming from him.

He was stuck and not going anywhere. It's not the time to be a hard ass and break a limb ... thats stupid and will put you out for a good period of time.

Their was no need for that.
Bet anything if Nog had a sub on Okami he would tap faster.
Now i really want to see Tanner beat his face in.
