I see either WEC or EXC as vying for the 2 spot. The type of organization HDNet is doing has potential to set them as quite a force in MMA, and though they couldn't overtake the UFC for quite some time, if at all, the could make a great compliment to the UFC and they exist in a much less polemical manner - they tend to bring the various leagues together. If they get Couture this would be huge. Quote:

Well I think that the WEC has the best champions for the #2 spot but they are kinda running out of contenders. EliteXC has a better range of fighters so I would give it to them due to their deep middle weight division. I would like to see the WEC and UFC do some cross promotions though, maybe a champion vs. champion thing, if that happened, the WEC could easily take it.
Wheres the poll?

| Elite XC and relationship to other orgs
Could somebody explain to me what the deal is with ProElite.
My understanding was that they own and or bought out and operate Elite XC, Strikeforce, King of the Cage, Cage Rage, Icon Sports and Rumble on the Rock. Is this true?
Now, although run separately, they don't compare the UFC but if you include them all, that's a pretty competitive talent pool.

EXC has put on great shows for such a young and upstart org. If they could sign a few big names they could be a viable alternative to the UFC.
But for now i think the are a very far second to the UFC.

Heros because they've got all the names
M-1 has one man, and nobody to fight him. K-1 signed pretty much all the LWs that i wanted to see in the UFC, so i'll watch their shit whenever.

I wouldn't Heros competion for the UFC. They don't have a US PPV deal (please correct me if I'm wrong) and the only US show they had last year didn't do so hot

Elite XC has shown over the past year that they have the commitment to be the #2 organization out there. They have a number top 10 fighters under their belts. (Shields, Silva, Lawler) and have other "name value" guys (Baroni, Diaz, Rua, Noons) not to mention Kimbo. I think they are growing and the fact that they copromote can really help them sustain good shows over a long period of time.
WEC isn't completely run as a minor league franchise, but could be considered one. Although guys like Filho & Faber are considered top 5 talents and some quality other champions, the production value of the org seems too low.
M-1 at the moment is no real player, but depending on the future free agent market the stock could rise quite a bit.
Strikeforce has a really good stable of fighters. Melendez is easily a top 5 talent and their desire to put on the best shows makes them a quality org. They also seem to respect the veterans of the sport.
IMO
WEC has a current edge (slight) over Elite XC because of the 145ers. If they were to lose or "promote" Filho, Condit, or McCullugh, they would quickly drop to #3. EXC is likely to become #2 with or without WEC departures if they can keep their fighters healthy and sign a little depth to compete with the few champions they have.
