| Best fighter with the worst record?
I got to thinking about this the other day. There are some really great fighters out there whose records don't necessarily reflect their skill.
The first two who really come to mind for me are Randy Couture (16-8), and Chris Lytle (25-14).
Who do you guys think fits into this category, owing to possible combinations of bad luck, bad match-ups, or just not living up to their potential?

Randy's almost certainly got the top spot.
Hidehiko Yoshida is only 7-5-1; he's up there.
Renzo Gracie is 13-6-1.
BJ Penn at 12-4-1 (10-4-1 prior to his recent rededication and beating Pulver then Big Daddy)
Those are the first three that come to my mind beyond Couture whom you named.

Agreed with Randy,
Dan Henderson is up there 22-6 (ofcourse some of those were in higher weight classes).
Rich Clementi, when he fought Mevlin I was suprised to see Rich's record was not the best 30-12.
And A. Sivla....suprised he has even lost a fight!

| tiger
the man who is most famous for getting knocked out by chuck liddell with a record of 11-9-1 vernon "tiger" white the man never got another shot at primetime after he had excellent submission skills from his early kink of the cage days and never got the respect he deserved but never had the record that would demand respect i dont know if he is even one of the best with the worst records but definelty the worst record with the most potential

Regarding Dan...His record would be much better if he wouldnt have fought in the higher weight divisions...both LHW and HW. If I am not mistaken only one of his losses was to a Middleweight...the rest were in higher weight divisions...His record would be almost flawless if he just stuck at MW....His record is a little decieving...
That is what I meant.

To expand on another point, whilw BJ Penn has a good record at 12-4-1, it probably would be better if he had just stuck at 155

He was never that good, but I give him a ton of credit for trading like that with Liddell...he actually tagged him a few times pretty good.
