GSP has fought plenty of wrestlers and done well, but has he ever faced a BJJ guy as nearly as good as Shields? Other than Serra, because he got KO'd before he could get subbed. | ahem ahem. Bj Penn.

AFter his deal w/ Bodog expired he was considered to be a top flight WW, yet UFC offered him the same 3 fight $6k per deal they had just signed Luigi Fiovaranti for. This last time around, in Novemember, they offered a 4 fight deal for about $14k per. That is still well below what established top 10 UFC WWs are getting. But, to come to UFCs defense, they did offer him a chance to be TUF contestant at one point.
Elite XC offered to pay Jake like a champion. How can anyone argue that?
Respect+Dollars = Long Term Deal
The only area that GSP is better at is the stand up game. Jake is one of the very best grapplers on the planet. Not many guys in the sport are great wrestlers and BJJ at once. Jake is. If / When a fight with GSP hit the ground, it wouldn't take long for Jake find a position to GnP or sub St.Pierre.
War SHIELDS | I swear man everyone bitches about the GSP fans on this site but I think the Serra Huggers are much worse. Serra would have subbed GSP if he hadnt clipped him Huh thats funny Cause exept for that lucky stoppage he hasnt finished anyone in nearly 6 years. Serra is a very boring and average fighter who got lucky he would have got owned by Hughes and will get owned by GSP this time around. Sheilds on the other hand is a great fighter and is in the top 10 for reasons other than 1 win (Serra) however im with everyone else when I say if he wants GSP he should have signed wit the UFC plain and simple . I understand u gotta make ur money thats fine but dont call out fighters in other orgs u refused to sign with. I think Sheilds is top 10 and thats it not top 5 not top 3 he has to fight the fighters in the top 5 to be ranked there and since there all in the UFC that aint gonna happen. I have said it before and I will say it again Sheilds is the most overrated Fighter and this forum hands down IMO

What makes anyone think that if Shields had signed a 4 fight deal that paid him like an undercard fighter, that he would have gotten a chance to fight GSP? Everyone has known how good Fitch is for the last 2 years, and he's had to win 8+ fights in UFC and still hasn't gotten a shot. With the money they threw at Jake this last time around his 4 fights would have been something like this:
Fight 1 - Jason Tan (UFN)
Fight 2 - Luigi Fioravanti (PPV Undercard)
Fight 3 - Josh Burkman (PPV Main Card)
Fight 4 - Josh Koscheck (PPV Main Card)
That's roughly what a 4 fight 14k per fight contract would have netted him.
Instead, he signs w/ EXC - and beat the same or better caliber opponents in his first 2 fights and is now set to have his title fight against a guy that is likely on Fight 3's level. All this and he's making 2x the cash.
I have to agree with Rivet, With all the time and PR invested in the UFC WW division having an outsider come in and roll them all would have been a very very bad thing. You could easily make the case that UFC ducked Shields with the lowball offer.
Who will Shields have to beat before the GSP huggers stop the "he's overrated" bullshit. I'd call a guy that is not yet the champion of his division and is considered to be the P4P #1 is overrated.

GSP is ranked they Way he is because of the people he has beat on his way up Hughes twice Karo Sherk Mayhem Bj. And if were talking about overrated lets talk about Serra a guy who lost to basically every top fighter he ever fought before GSP then wins 1 fight and is #1 all of a sudden thats overrated. GSP has fought and beat top competion his whole career unlike ur boy Serra

the GSP huggers who think Serra was lucky are idiots. watch the fight
GSP wasnt beating him up or controlling, and he didnt even land a flush shot before he got knocked the hell out.
serra is hardly anyone's boy on this site, there are just smart people who know good boxing and counters to the jab with no head movement, and tools attached squarely to GSPs nuts who just ignore everything people say, because they presume GSP is being insulted by people who are pointing out the fact it was a legit KO because of a hole in GSPs game, that Serra saw and capitalized on
