The fight is up to Pride? No, no it's not. If it was, I'm sure it'd have probably happened by now, or have a date set.
It's a collaborative effort, this fight is neither the UFC's or Pride's sole responsibility. If both sides can't agree, nothing happens.
The UFC is the one who has a lot more to lose by making this fight happen, and making it not happen is an understandable business move by Dana White and Co. Not one I like, because I'd like to see the fight, but it's understandable.
Who has more to gain from this fight as far as a business goes? I'd say Pride, just because they haven't tapped into the American market yet, and dominating the known company's top guy would be an amazing way to get publicity for their show.
I honestly expect this fight will happen in early - mid 2007, once Dana White sees that Pride is in the USA to stay. Right now, the risk : reward ratio for UFC just isn't there to even risk Chuck losing this fight.
Remember, first and foremost, these are businesses. They're in this to make money. This fight is a better business opportunity for Pride, hands down.
