I am interested in the outcome of this. I hope he fights again soon. I think the UFC is going to need to start having more opportunities for fighters to fight. This upcoming card is anexample of that. When you have top five guys like AA on the undercard it means you arr not doing enough events. If you are not doing enough events you are wasting guys like Soko. |
Dana White already said how many PPV events they have "planned" for the year so I dont see any impromptu fights showing up anytime soon. I forget the number he said but i think it was somewhere around 16 or 18. I'll try to dig that info up, but I think the main problem isnt the amount of events, I think it is just that a lot of guys are training their asses off and showing up big at events and the fanbase is ever increasing so you have a lot of guys that maybe wouldnt of gotten so much attention 5 years ago with fanbases now so you have to keep bringing the names to the ring that bring the fans. Like for instance, Alexander. He showed up out of nowhere, no ground game at all, beat up a few guys and now you got people on the internet begging for title shots lol. Don't get me wrong I like Houston, I just think the amount of fans that the sport is attracting is the reason you see big names ending up on the undercards.
I think the solution to the problem really just lies in how many matches per show there are. Before 10-12 matches would be a killer show, but now with the sheer amount of contracted fighters in the UFC, it makes sense that you may want to add an hour or so to the show and maybe 2 or 3 more fights. I'm by no means a marketing genious, but I would think that this would make all the fans happier, not to mention more fighters would get paid so they would be happier too lol.
I wouldn't want to be Joe Silva when it comes time to choose which ones end up on the PPV main cards lol.
Just my view on it anyways
