Ok as much as I am not a Randy fan by him not manning up and honoring his contract - this is the best thing I think he could have done to get out of his UFC contract. The reason I say this is that the court filling has the following in it:
Quote:
In the court filing, HDNet Fights called the clause “illegal” and contends that such indefinite employment restrictions are illegal in Texas
Which means that even if Couture's contract would be for life based on what we know and it kind of is, at least in Texas it isn't.

On another note - I do not see the Fedor/Couture fight being on PPV. Even if it does get there, it will probably do Pride numbers which will be around 30-40k buys not the 200k that UFC seems to have a lock on as a min.

According to Forbes.com 2007 top 400, Cuban is worth 2.6 billion. Each of the Fertitta brothers are worth 1.3 billion. So, in a rather interesting coincidence, the F brothers are worth pretty much exactly the same as Cuban.

I'm not entirely sure how Texas law has any basis here. Considering his employement is technically in Las Vegas where Zuffa is located.

Cuban is obviously trying slick legal manuevering, doesn't this act scream collaboration. In the end I think this may help the UFC's case more then hurt it.

Both those things are disrespectful to the fans and the fighters.

I was a huge Randy fan, got crazy excited for the Sylvia fight. After all this I just don't care anymore. I hope he gets his ass kicked and karma bites him in the ass for this BS.

This isn't about whos right or wrong for me, its about keeping your word.
I couldn't agree more!

I have bought every UFC and Pride event dating back as far as I can recall, but I give my word today.

If this does happen, I will not pay ANY money for it. I will not order it, I will not go to a bar showing it. I am so done with Randy and have made my feelings known. He is an arrogant Prima Donna.

The only 3 differences between Randy and Tito are

-Tito doesn't TRY to come off as a nice guy and then stab you in the back. With Tito, what you see is what you get.

-Tito successfully defended his belt more than once

-Tito honors his word like a man should.

If the suit was filed in federal district court in Texas, it will be judged by federal guidelines.

Actually the Contract dictates that the contract itself be held to Nevada laws, so it will be interpreted under Nevada laws (It was filed in Texas State Courts)

Couldn't agree more. I'll go out of my way to ensure that Randy never pockets a single dime of my money. I'm through with him.

You are not going to watch (possibly) the best MMA fight in history because the UFC creates extreamly manipulative contracts?

I agree that Randy should have just finished his contract, but from what I have read the only real way to get out from underneith the UFC (if they want to keep you) is to lose...

I'm all for honor and keeping your word, but we don't know what really went down between the UFC and Randy... For all we know Randy reitred the first time because he wanted to fight outside of the UFC and couldn't get out of that contract.

Are you people fans of Legal Precedences or are you fans of MMA?

I can't speak for anyone else, but I'm most certainly a fan of MMA. However the Martial arts part of Mixed Martial arts indicates a certain amount of honor. If Mr. Coture wanted out of his contract, why not fight his few fights, and then move on. As anyone who has taken any martial arts classes know honor is one of the most important aspects of the art form. Throughout this situation he has been extremely dishonorable. I would expect these type of actions from a promotor (Dana White) however, a fighter, no, a human being should honor his word. Whether through a contract, or a handshake. Regardless of legal presedence, both parties signed a contract last year with the intention of Randy Coture fighting a certain number of fights for the UFC. To back out of that, and decide you want to fight elsewhere no matter the reason seems to me to be dishonorable, and that's what matters to me.
