Default UFC announces Yahoo! as new PPV distributor

This is a bigger deal than most would think right off the bat considering how huge Yahoo is.

Quote:
Las Vegas, NV (USA) – Ultimate Fighting Championship® (UFC®) organization today announced Yahoo! will be the new online distributor for UFC live Pay-Per-View (PPV) events, via Yahoo! Sports. Fans can view the next UFC event, UFC 82: PRIDE OF A CHAMPION, on March 1, 2008 at MMA - ufcppv - Yahoo! Sports.

“This relationship with Yahoo! is an important step for the UFC to build its global distribution platform for live pay-per-view events,” said Dana White, UFC President. “We are looking forward to working with Yahoo! Sports to expand our reach and bring the sport of mixed martial arts to fight fans in every corner of the world in every possible language.” In 2007, UFC continued to set Pay-Per-View and venue sales records, bolstered by the continuing success of UFC programming on Spike TV and the addition of several PRIDE® Champions to UFC’s increasingly star-studded roster. In Yahoo!’s premiere UFC online event, UFC 82: PRIDE OF A CHAMPION, Dan Henderson, PRIDE Champion, will face off against Anderson Silva, UFC Champion, in a much-anticipated unification title fight to crown the undisputed king of the UFC Middleweight division.

In 2007, Yahoo! and UFC began a relationship that would expand the availability of MMA news, information and entertainment coverage to reflect the explosive growth of the sport and the UFC brand. In October 2007, Yahoo! Sports launched a channel dedicated fully to MMA, offering fans access to live streaming of UFC pay-per-view weigh-ins and a wide range of UFC video content. This media-rich channel includes original content from Yahoo! Sports writers Dave Meltzer, Kevin Iole and Dave Doyle, as well as additional contributions from other recognized MMA writers. This partnership is an important component of UFC’s overall global expansion plans.

Yeah I would expect feeds from Yahoo to be rather well compared to UFC's website. I mean why else would Microsoft try to buy Yahoo for 45 billion lol. This is great for mass amounts of people wanting a reliable server to watch UFC ppv's online as well as great marketing for the UFC considering how many hits Yahoo gets daily.

Yeah I would certainly expect the feed from yahoo to be much better. Strangely enough I havent really had feed problems with the UFC website. Most of the problems ive had stem from the ordering process and actually getting the PPV started. Once its going it works fine but it takes a fuckin act of congress to get to that point.

Couple of questions:

1. How much will Yahoo Live PPV cost?

2. Can we record or store the online event to view later?

3. Will the prelim AA fight be shown online?

Thanks.

Well that has not been announced yet but I can already tell you that you can rule your #2 question out. They are not going to willingly let people record the ppv so if you are going to do it then you will probably be doing it illegally lol.

I have a feeling it will simply be the same fights you will see on ppv. Maybe not though and they will show you the whole event, guess we will know soon enough.

Hopefully they will now include Mac users and not limit it to Internet Explorer only.

I never had ordered a ppv online from UFC, we always order them at a friends or go to the bar. Did UFC.com only provide it for Internet Explorer? Wow thats shitty.

If they are smart they'd offer it on the top 3 browsers... Internet Explorer, Mozilla Firefox and Safari.

It probably has to do with the DRM it has to keep people from recording the broadcast (as if copies of the ppv don't get out anyways)
