That sucks. I assume it was a preexisting condition of some sort.

really sad... sounds like cardiomyopathy, same way hank gathers and reggie lewis (former basketball players) died. From what i hear it's very hard to diagnose, only way to catch it is with genetic screening... athletes in seemingly perfect condition suddenly go like that.

My thoughts exactly, sometime you can spot it by monitoring heart rate while working out... usually people will have abnormally high bps during their warm ups...
Very sad that it couldn't have been caught sooner if that's indeed what it was... and yes everyone should remember this as a lesson when training or working out... I know I will...

i remember when i was in boot camp, there was this kid in my flight who ended up getting discharged due to a heart mumor. apparently he had it since he was a child, played a lot of competive sports growing up, and passed his physical before entering the service. then he got sick one night, and they found it so they had to send him home...he was heart broken, but it probably saved his life.
i wonder though, if this death is anything like that. i really hope for the sports sake that it was a preexisting condition and not something that happened during training. ignorant, political, douches would be all over this...
RIP to this young man, and best wishes out to his family and friends.

And no .... I'm not insinuating anything, I mean I really am baffled. | A good buddy of mine has always been in tremendous shape but he has an enlarged heart that could end up killing him if he pushes himself too hard. Not saying this is the same thing, but you never know
RIP

That was my immediate guess, a heart problem he might not have been aware of..
It is tragic when stuff like this happens.
