Personally I prefer cage, but I don't think it's a big deal...

When Zuffa bought the UFC, they bought it entirely, including exclusive rights to the 8 sided cage. The resets in Pride are annoying as hell for me. Like most pro-cage guys on this thread said, it allows a breather for the gassed fighter, and it often causes a shift in momemtum which is even more unfair to the fighter who has the advantage at that moment. I agree with UFCFanatic that the cage gives the gladiator feel. On the other hand, some pro-ring guys think it makes MMA more mainstream. This sport is what it is - two well trained guys trying to beat the balls off of each other. It ain't ESPN bowling. Another variable is that UFC events are slickly produced and the crowds are louder, which as a home viewer, gets me fired the fuk up. Because of the cultural differences in that Pridefighting Championships are held in Japan, the crowd is quieter. The FSN broadcasts a lot of the time don't capture the excitement. I actually watch good UFC fights on tape before I work out to get fired the fuk up.

I am sure a ring versus cage poll has already been done with pro MMA fighters. Has anyone ever seen the results of such a poll? How about this - does anyone know any pro fighters they can ask to see what he and his counterparts think? I would really like to know.

By the way, did I mention that a good UFC fight fires me the fuk up?

I watch these while I work out too! I agree with you about the differences with the crowd. Pride exceeds the UFC crowd figures usually by 20 to 30 thousand and sometimes you could almost hear a pin drop. I would love to see how different the US crowd does in Pride's first production on US turf in October though!

I gotta go with the cage, and even though its not part of the disscussion, I would add that I would like to see the Pride rules, in a cage. That would be sweeeeeeeeeet.

Its better for the fans watching live to have a ring. I went to Hughes vs Gracie at the staples center and its hard to see sometimes casue of the cage

I like the look of cage better but I think ring is more neutral for the fighters.

I just never liked how fighters use the cage to trap the other fighter thats on the ground.

At the risk of sounding like I am promoting street fights, I think being able to trap, press, or post someone against the cage best simulates conditions if you were ever forced to get into a brawl.

I like the ring even though I would rather have niether and have them on some big platform or a sumowrestling type ring. Anyway I like the ring better because it doean't give someone as much of a weight advatage over and over agian I see people who have not much ground skill pin someone up to the cage and lay on them. Where if the cage was not there they would have gotten their ass handed to them. Also people can hold on to the cage and cheat so they cant be taken to the ground....I know it is against the rules but how often do you see anything really happen because of it??? I don't think you get to see the better fighter all the time because of the cage. So again I pick the Ring. They restart Cage matches all the time too so I don't think thats valid enough of a point.
