Default Cheerleading beats MMA!

Source: http://www.fwapfwap.com

"This weekend at the Offical Olympic Placement of Sports(OOPS) the committee has offically decided to induct a new sport into the Olympics. The new sport will be introduced in the 2012 games in Somalia. The sports that were up for the position:

1. Cheerleading
2. Mixed Martial Arts
3. Pole Diving
4. NASCAR

In the first meeting, NASCAR and Pole Diving were immediately dropped due to socialy and morally negative issues. We were left with Mixed Martial Arts and Cheerleading. The board decided to choose cheerleading over MMA, stating... "Cheerleading is a teamsport and has all of the ideal attributes that a world recognized sport should have. These athletes have heart and and the beliefs we hold true. We have decided not to use MMA as our sport becuase we feel it holds no real value to sports fans in this new millinium."

I'm pretty appauled at this - what a travesty. I don't want to bash cheerleading, but I certainly think of mma as more of a worldwide sport. And when they reason their decision with, "we feel it holds no real value to sports fans in this new millinium" that pisses me off - mma is surely a faster growing sport than cheerleading and by 2012 I see it being one of -the- major world sports.

What do you think? Please bear in mind with your replies that this thread could potentially be read by olympic commities and we don't want to just look like fools.

git.

MMA would have to be so watered down to be an olympic sport that I can't see there being a point of it. And we already for the most are seeing the best fighters in the world going against each other. Plus I know that a lot of fighters would have national pride but why would you go from fighting for 400K-Million a fight to doing it for free?

good point, i cant see the owners of the bigger organizations letting their champions compete and risking injury. imo the mental state of a fighter plays a huge role in his success, competing at any event will always put a fighter at risk of being overexposed and could have an effect on his pro career, wand for example, since he has lost to mirko, people want to see mirko/chuck now, somehow losing to mirko has taken wand out of the spotlight.

In boxing only amateurs are allowed.

Doesn't anyone think this could have been a great boost to the sport's popularity, even if the rules are a little stricter and only amateur fighters are allowed?

It would be intanst legitimization of our sport. It makes it much harder to argue against MMA when it's in the fucking olympics.

I’m having a mental block (or I guess I live a sheltered life). Outside the USA where does cheerleading take place??? The NCAA and the NFL are the biggest stages for Cheerleading. Although cheerleading is a VERY difficult sport that requires strength and cardio and I don’t think it comes close the strength and cardio required by MMA.

MMA is international.

Unlike the NBA I think MMA camps would be proud to represent the USA in the Olympics.

In the end it came down to beauracracy. Nobody on the Olympic commision wanted to get in trouble so they made the "safe" pick.

This is kinda funny because Pancration was in the first Olympics in Greece, and MMA is just a modern form of Pancration. Just go to show how stupid the people running the Olymics are.
