I find that less annoying than drunken rednecks booing every time a fight hits the ground. Or in some cases, before a fighter even enters the cage. The attitude of I paid for my ticket/Milwaukees Best, I have a right to boo every time I don't understand what's going on is pretty annoying, even at smaller venues.

The asshole ratio among North American fans is far higher than in Japan.

I'm not even referring to the Japanese fans really, i prefer their attitude too, I'm talking more about the idea some of them have about Japan being really different to other countries, and no doubt some of them think their fans being respectful and quite is all part of the uniqueness that is Japan, kinda like a subliminal arrogance or something as they are basically saying look at how respectful our fans are compared to your country, Japanese people are great.

This may seem strange of me to say, but I've had deal with a few of these people in real life, and it gets tiresome. But to clarify I think the Japanese fans approach to mma is more respectful and definitely the way i prefer, its just that the guy asking the question "is Japan different?" reminds of some of those people I've encountered that seem to need clarification from a foreigner that they are in fact super duper.

I'm pretty sure he wasn't talking about the fans, I think what he meant and again this is only my opinion.

The Mentality seems to be that fighting in Japan or the Japanese way of doing things is somehow superior. Personally I would almost guarentee that when the Yakuza was involved with Pride that there were fights that were either "thrown" or judges were "influenced." We've already heard the infamous Rampage Sakuraba allegations. My thought is this, American fans do need to learn more before booing like litttle children. On the other hand though I've seen some BORING Japanese fights were the fans are still cheering two guys " hugging " each other for 15 minutes.

Either way I think that the whole of Japanese fans and fighting is just different. Not necessarily better.

Japanese people just have a different culture. They don't boo because no one else is booing because they are taught to be kind of quiet and respectful.

half of the fans in America boo because the other half is booing. Japanese people arent any better or worse than Americans. They are just more quiet. shit, half of them sit there and talk quietly to their buddies during the fights.

I think it is more respectful to be quiet and not boo or whatever but I dont think that japanese people have a greater appreciation for the sport.
