I really dont like how Dana markets, although it has uplifted the UFC.. its turned me off from it I feel like im watchin real wrestling sometimes, I dont like a lot of the fighters cuz there not mixed martial artist half the time, the commentating sucks, Dana is just a jackass, he gets rid of too many good fighters too, and god please CHANGE THE DAMN MUSIC

He has tapped into the most sought after market in the US. - males 18-34.
I do agree that many fighters in the UFC are not as well rounded as I would like to see. There are too many one dimensional fighters which is why the top tier fighters in UFC don't ever seem to have any real competition.
Joe Rogan is a pretty good comentator not the best but it could be a lot worse. Frank Trigg comes off as a dork when he is commentating.
Yes they treat the fighters like cannon fodder and if they don't win are usually gone the next day never to be seen again or they end up in Pride and begin to excell. baroni is one that comes to mind. I wish they had a developmental program for the UFC and actually brought fighters up through it so we could see more quality fights. But I guess that is kinda what TUF is.

They end up in Pride and excell cuz they were never bad fighters, Dana throws them to the curve way too soon I am still VERY MAD that TUF 4 involves ppl that only had 2 fights in the UFC and he already throws them away when there WAY BETTER then a lot of the TUF cans that stay in the UFC and get more fights then them, then every PPV lineup you look at you see a bunch of no-names
this is why Pride >>>> UFC IMO, Pride markets itself more like an actual sport and its competition level is higher cuz it keeps more, better fighters.. they dont throw them away after 2 fights as often as the UFC does.

i think one of the things they should start doing is pitting a first time fighter against another first time fighter

Pride has more depth, Dana throws away the depth to put together main cards. At least that is what they did in the past. I have to think that the reason this happened is the same reason they got rid of the LW division. They just couldn't afford to keep it at the time.
I am hoping that as the UFC grows they will be able to bring fighters along and the veteran fighters will get more than one or two fights then get thrown away. We have to remember that only 3 years ago the UFC was bankrupt. I think their business plan was to build it up by getting sanctioned then have big fights to help pay for it. Over the last two years their PPV's have increased tenfold. I don't think it is just profit oriented, well maybe a lot of it is, but I think it is also to develop a fan base so they can start getting some depth in the divisions. Look at Joe Riggs, two years ago if he lost two fights in a row no one would hear of him until he went to pride. Now He is getting more fights because he has talent and is young.
We can only hope this is a trend that continues so the UFC will be able to compete with Pride in the next two - three years otherwise the UFC will be bankrupt again adn pride will take over the US.

I bet 75% of his income comes from endorsements and merchandise alone.

Only the purse is public knowledge. But he will fight twice this year at 250K per fight thats half a mil. I'd take it.
