Which brings us to MMA, by far the best style. All styles in one!!! |
i guess thats really where i was going with some of this, all styles in one, but i donot see all styles in one i see three or four in one, and i think if someone out there was to come out with a true all styles in one, like a bruce lee, they would not only dominate but change the way these fighters approach thier training

I can only speak from personal experience I took karate for like ten years when i was a kid, I wrestled in HS, more recently I have been taking kung fu san soo and BJJ. I think karate will lay a foundation for striking and learning to take a punch. particularly if it is a young person (5 yo- 15yo). After that you need to look at what is really going to work on the street. Some of the most important lessons I learned in karate had to do with balance, center of gravity, instinctive reactions and self confidence. All of wich are transferable to other forms of MA. If you want to fight professionally or want to learn really good self defence you better stick to BJJ and pretty much anything else.

Lyoto's style is Karate
Genki Sudo uses a lot of martial arts, so does Kid Yamamoto

check a movie called "drunken master" its a comedy kung fu movie from the 70's with jackie chan, it has a scene where jackie goes through the whole form, very impressive, it also shows how it could have some prctical use, just rememebr its just a movie and a comedy at that, not a reference to a real combat situation, but its leverage, use of momentum and a full body contact concept is very applicable in a mixed martial arts concept in my opinion

Come on now, I thought you had some credibility but you don't know any more about it than I do.
Yes I saw drunken master and that shit is all coreographed. Just like any Kung Fu movie. I have also seen a real Kung Fu fight and it looked like a couple of fights I had personally.

one of the main problems with kung fu is simply the lack of practice
any TMA guy can say all he wants about efficiency and street tactics, but he's never had a fight in the dojo.
every kickboxer and boxer and JJ guy has hours and hours of practical experience. when he knows what to do, they put him in a ring, or a on a mat, and he has to beat the other guy doing the same thing
wheres that in kung fu? you do drills and forms, but you still cant fight. you can hit, you can look good, but you cant fight worth a damn without experience fighting. as a wing chun black belt, i can confidently say that i would have been destroyed had i tried to fight anybody doing any training in a more common art like MT or boxing, let alone get tapped by a JJ guy. i couldnt fight on the ground, i had no practical experience using my shit against a boxer or any conventional fighter.
after like a month and a half of MT, wrestling, and BJJ, im more confident about my fighting skills then i was after 3 and a half years of kung fu

i got another story for ya.....
i started taking these free tai chi classes that where being taught by this 52 year old chinese guy, to this day he is the best teacher i've ever had the priviledge of studying under, martial arts was his life and he was a badass a very modest badass but a bad ass none the less, once i got to know him a little better i would even test him by trying to catch him sleeping, but he was always three moves ahead of me, and the one thing i always had in my favor was speed, any way this guy had black belt in judo a real one from his homeland in china where he started as a boy, it took him eight years to get his brown and another eight to get his black, they dont have all these other colored belts, he also had a black belt in kung fu and tea kwon do and i learned alittle about that from him as well, but it was the tia chi i benefited from the most, it taught me to slow down and teach my body to react naturally in self defense, it also helped me with my breathing and balance. some guy descided he wanted to fight me one night while out with my buddies and i totally tia chi'd his ass, it was actually quite commical, no matter what he came at me with i had an answer in the form of tia chi, eventually i got tired of horsing around with this guy and started slapping him around but i never thought i would be able to use tia chi in any sort of practical way but i did, granted this guy wasnt trained or anything but it was a street fight and it was the tia chi he couldnt get past, make of what you will, but i have been looking for practical uses of every martial arts form out there since.
