However, I would have to agree with you, 'hustla...time may have passed Angle by in this sport. 38 is awfully late to come to this game, even for someone with his pedigree... (sorry, Mastiff, couldn't resist the WWE jab) ;0) But I would find an Angle-Couture match very interesting...at least from a grappling standpoint!
Cheers,

Kurt Angle is the exception not the rule. I will give credit where it is due. GOld medalist can't really argue with that.
However, given todays mma athletes ability there is not ONE and I mean Zero pro wrestler that I want to see in MMA. If Angle would have went MMA 10 years ago maybe a different story.
I guess my thing is this is an MMA forum. If I wanted to talk about wrasslers I would go to a wrasslin forum.
On a side note I might be inclined to watch a wrassler mix it up with the likes of Fedor just to shut them all up. That would be so much worse than Rickson vs Takada which was the last time a pro wrassler got into the squared circle with a real fighter and that lasted what a minute adn a half?

Kurt Angle is about the only wrassler I'm familiar with except for old school guys. I stopped watching that about 10 years ago. I have no idea who lashley is nor do I particularly care.

Hell wesley snipes is athletic but he is by no means an athlete.
Wrestlers are athletic but not athletes. they are actors much the same as wesley snipes or any other number of athletic actors. | Try teling that to Lawrence Taylor who climbed in the ring for Wrestlemania (whatever) he gave an interview about it afterwards and he was in great shape back then...he said he could never become a proffessional wrestler because of the fact they were in great shape...athlete is defined as a professional that compeats...just because the outcome is fake doesn't mean they take hella bumbs.

actually rumor has it that the UFC wants to set up Kurt Angle vs. Daniel Puder...anyone who has watched Smackdown in the last couple years knows where that stems from...

Not sure that this thread started as a tribute to wrasslin' (JR comment aside). I see the lines possibly getting a bit blurred over time. Yes, WWE and other "pro wrestling" shows are fake but that's where the money is. An unfortunate fact is that a mid-level "fake wrestler" can (and does) make more money than guys in the MMA world.
Training regiments will also become more inter-twined as wresting "fans" will want to see more "realistic action" like Thai boxing, jujitsu, etc. and the egos will always be there (I'm a bad ass 'rassler and could do this MMA thing...).
Truth is, Mastiff, there aren't many 'rasslers who could last with someone trained in the art of MMA. But there are a few...like Angle and possibly guys like Lashley, Lesnar and a few others.
Earlier, I didn't give Angle much of a chance due to his age but I think I need to take a step back. Hell, Ken Shamrock is still fighting at what, 42? Randy hung-up the gloves at 43? Geez, Tank Abbott is still bouncing around out there, isn't he?
My god, if Rashard Evans can cash a UFC paycheck, guys like Angle most certainly could. He's got a killer work ethic and would be a definite success. While he may not survive against a Liddell, Cro Cop, etc., Iwould like to see him make a run at it.
It would certainly liven up these boards!
Cheers,
