| How serious are the UFC about the LW?
Now that the UFC have reintroduced the lightweight division I'm beginning to wonder how much interest they have in it, really?
Personally I thought the LW was one of the most exciting divisions they had with Penn, Bang, Uno etc, but some of the fights they are putting on don't seem to be edging towards any title shots or elimination deciders. I know the last time they had a tournament for the title belt went tits up, but Guillard Vs Davis? Come on?!?!
I hope i'm wrong.
(Incidentally, Guillard...23 years old...45 fights! Does he count the one when the mid-wife slapped his ass when popped out his mum!?!?!?)

I'd give them a little more time. They just announced the return of the LW for UFC 58, it's barely gonna be UFC 60. Hopefully they can scout some top LW from around the world like Bushido does. I would love to see Vitor "Shaolin" Ribeiro in the UFC, he would run the LW division.

If ya'll would show some love to our Spencer Fisher interview, he let's the cat out of the bag on plans for the return of the Lightweight title, and who's scheduled to fight for it. Show some home turf love people, go reply to the thread with the interview link on it. Makes us look good to outsiders who visit this forum (and believe me a lot do)

All sorts of guys are dropping down. Joe Stevenson, Luke Cummo, Yves, Kenny Florian, Sean Sherk, Mark Hominick (if he comes back) and Spencer Fisher. I think if Dana is really serious he would get Bang and Pulver back full time.

Luke Cummo is going down to 155? Hominick didn't drop down to 155, if I ain't mistaken he's a 145 lb. fighter. Bang is fighting at 170 a lot lately I think too, plus has always seemed to give a shit if he fights for UFC or not. He came once and had the fight of the night with Genki Sudo, made himself a star with the awesome karate kid pose to finish the fight, then disappeared. He returns, knocks the living shit out of someone in like 10 seconds, and disappears again.
But yeah if the UFC title plans are Sherk vs. Florian-Stout winner like Spencer told us, then they don't seem too serious about the LW division yet. It's sad that guys like Yves, Hermes, and Thomson did all they did before UFC bagged the LW division, and they never got a title shot. Now they bring back the division and rush a title fight with two people who haven't proved deserving yet. Sherk being a top 5 WW is great, and I don't really have any problems with him being in the title shot picture, but he hasn't even fought at 155 yet and he immediately gets a title shot? Florian struggles and beats a one-dimensional kickboxer in Kit Cope, and if he beats Sam Stout who is a good fighter but not even a top 10, probably not even top 20 LW, and that's your title fight? Kinda makes you feel for Yves, Hermes, Thomson like I said, who had done so much before they dropped the division and never got a title fight.

Last I heard Ludwig is fighting Thomson at Strikeforce at 155.
I can't see why the UFC can't sign this kind of fight. Sorry to go on about the UFC, but it's the only regular mma we get in the uk & when I see fights being made like this on "smaller" shows it pisses me off.
I only got to see the awesome Luiz Azeredo Vs Joachim Hansen fight on youtube & it reminded me how good the LW division really was.
OK..........sulk over!

Actually Ludwig is fighting Tyson Griffin. As for "smaller" shows, Strikeforce 1st event had a larger attendence than any UFC ever, well see if they can keep it up though. You are correct, LWs are awesome and Bushido Owns All.

Smaller internationally. This guy isn't an American I don't think, so without PPV or TV, the biggest fight in North American history was just that, the biggest fight in AMERICAN history. No one outside the country gets to see it. I wasn't there live, but I downloaded the show off a torrent site. I believe the card airs on Fox Sports Net pretty soon too, so you'll probably get some of those fights on YouTube soon.
Ninja is right, Ludwig-Griffin, but man I'd LOVE to see Ludwig/Thomson. That would be an AWESOME fight.

I understand what you mean. I just consider smaller shows WEC, KOTC, ICON, etc. Strikeforce is an upstart org, but definitely not small, yet anyway. I don't know if they'll ever show the Strikeforce on FSN. Frank Shamrock's website said it was gonna be on 30 day delay on FSN and it still hasn't shown. Their website doesn't say anything about it either. You can purchase the 1st event on DVD when you buy a ticket for the 2nd event at Ticketmaster.com, but that's the only place I have seen it advertised.

it's obvious they are serious about the LW division. It's already really stacking up especially since they brought Jens back.
