Training Methods

There was a lot made about B.J. Penn's training methods leading up to the fight, mostly about how he abandoned "professional" training methods because he got burned out. However, Penn ended up tiring after a long scramble late in the second round and was easily taken down by Hughes and quickly had his guard passed and TKO'ed in the third. My question is, now that mma has evolved beyond a spectacle into a professional sport, does the street fighter mentality still work. It seems to me that this approach is outdated in comparision with professional, scientific training methods. What do you guys think?

I think if you are going into a fight, assuming it's your job....title shot or not, you be in the best damn shape of your life.
