| McCarthy not concerned with Bisping Quote:
Attention Anderson Silva; ‘Chainsaw’ Charles McCarthy is looking for you – sooner, rather than later.
“I would pay money to fight that guy; I would love to fight him,” said an animated McCarthy. “You’re getting in there with the best guy in the division, and to me, I see things that I’m strongest at that I think he’s weakest at. I would love to get that fight and it’s definitely my goal. So if nobody else wants to fight that guy after I get through with Bisping, set it up. I’ll fight him that next night. I’m a huge fan of Anderson Silva, I think he’s a phenomenal fighter, but I’ll fight him for free. I’ll fight him on the very next show after I beat Bisping, and I have no problem with that.”
Ah Bisping, Michael Bisping, the man McCarthy has some business with this Saturday night at UFC 83 before he can even think about squaring off against the dynamic UFC middleweight champion. But the Coconut Creek, Florida resident isn’t too concerned with The Ultimate Fighter season three winner and former light heavyweight contender who will be traveling from England to Canada to make his 185-pound debut this weekend. Uh-uh, McCarthy thinks this one is already in the win column.
“I am going to come in, take him down and submit him in the first round,” said McCarthy in the way of a prediction for Saturday’s bout. “I told you I was going to do that against Gideon (Ray) and it happened, I’m letting you know it’s gonna happen against Bisping, and I’d be very surprised if anything else happens other than that.”
It’s been like this for weeks, with McCarthy and Bisping trading barbs both here and abroad about what they’re going to do to each other when the Octagon door closes. It’s added an intriguing angle to the bout, which has now become one of the most highly anticipated on the UFC 83 card. But is it all for show from McCarthy, a TUF alum himself from the fourth season of the reality series? Not in his eyes, as he really sees nothing to be concerned about from Bisping, and he isn’t shy about telling you why.
“I’ve been around the training of fighters for a while now and I’ve seen guys that have tons of potential,” he explains. “I’ve seen guys who thought they had a lot of potential and didn’t, and I’ve seen guys who had no potential but made something out of themselves. When I see Bisping, I don’t think that guy’s getting much better than he is. I think he’s always gonna be a tough guy with good cardio and a good pace who’s never gonna have a great ground game, someone who’s gonna be tough to take down and keep down. His standup is tough but I don’t think it’s world-class, and I don’t see in him what they’re trying to make him out to be. The guy earned his due, he won the show, and by winning the show you basically earn the marketing machine the UFC puts behind you. He earned that, I’m not jealous of that, I’m not bothered by it, and I would have been surprised if it didn’t happen. But I know fighters, I see what he has, and no marketing can tell me otherwise. I know exactly what this guy’s got, I’ve seen his fights, who he’s fought, and I’m just not impressed by him.”
If you look at McCarthy’s UFC slate, see just a couple of fights and think he’s just a newcomer to the game trying to make a name with his mouth, think again. The New York native has been a pro since 2003, is a Brown belt under American Top Team’s Ricardo Liborio, and the owner of his own school in Florida. So he’s been around these parts before, and as a veteran, he doesn’t feel the need to beat around the bush or to take tune-up fights, even though this will be his first bout since undergoing surgery on his knee after his November 2006 win over Gideon Ray.
“I’m not a spring chicken anymore,” said McCarthy. “I fought in the UFC before anybody even knew who Michael Bisping was. I’ve been doing this a long time and how many more fights am I going to have to do before I prove myself? I’m ready to go now, I feel that my skill level is better than it’s ever been, I know I’m much better than I was even in my last fight against Gideon, so I don’t feel like I need a tune-up fight. You can lose those just as much as you can fighting against title contenders – it’s no different. A fight is a fight and all these guys have the ability to knock you out or submit you, so why not go in there and fight on the world stage against the best fighter you can? I fully expect to win this fight and there’s no way this guy’s walking over me. He’s gonna be fighting me off of him the whole fight.”
In the bout against Ray at The Ultimate Fighter 4 finale, McCarthy finally showed the potential that so many had seen in him over the years but which never came through on the big stage. It took him just 4:43 to submit Ray, and the fact that he did it with a torn ACL suffered four weeks earlier makes the victory even
more impressive. But the momentum from the win was lost when he traveled straight from Las Vegas to Atlanta for surgery, putting him on the shelf for six months before he could train again. And once he got back to the gym, it was another six months before he felt like himself again, but once he was ready, he let UFC matchmaker Joe Silva know that he was ready to go and ready for anyone the organization wanted to throw at him.
“I always keep in touch in Joe Silva and he asked me what the plan was and I told him that I wanted to have a fight by March,” said McCarthy. “He threw a couple of names at me and I told him I wanted to fight the best guy I could. Bisping is who he came up with and I agreed instantly.”
And since late last year, the only thing on his mind has been this fight, which can transform his career instantly in one fell swoop if he pulls off the win.
“I’ve probably had more time to prepare for this fight than any fight that I’ve had in my career, and I’ve been living this fight in my head all day, every day, since November,” he said. “Earlier in my career I used to stress fights a lot more, but I’m so confident in my abilities, especially going into this fight, that I know I’m gonna beat this guy and I’m gonna finish him. I’m not really that stressed about it and I can’t imagine any other way this fight is going.”
But back to that Anderson Silva stuff. Does he really want to call out the most feared fighter in the game today?
“Every guy that I was in that (Ultimate Fighter) house with, I think they would all say that they would pay to fight that guy,” said McCarthy. “That’s the opportunity that we fight all our careers for. I don’t think that anyone who makes it to the UFC level gets into it because they want to sign autographs and take pictures. I think those guys get weeded out at the lower level shows. I think the guys that make it to the top level all strive to be champion.”
It’s why Charles McCarthy does this. Oh yeah, that and the opportunity to show his skills in front of 22,000 people this weekend.
“I live for this stuff and I feed off of it,” he said. “A lot of us enjoy the response from the crowd. When I’m fighting I can hear things being said like ten rows up. I really take it all in, I enjoy it, and I feed off the energy of the crowd. It fuels me up, and just thinking about it now I’ve got goosebumps.”

McCarthy's talking a lot of trash. I think he'll beat Bisping, but it probably won't be an easy win. I don't think he's proven himself to be anywhere near ready for a challenge to Silva's title.

Anderson Silva is not even in the realm of possibility for Capt Miserable.

I have no faith in McCarthy, but he's pretty damn confident. He seemed barely mediocre on TUF. I guess I'll have to check out more of his fights.

McCarthy can hold his own standing, and has a decent chin, but on the ground he's just on another level compared to Bisping.
Bisping struggles/loses to any good wrestler with decent ground work. And IMO he has yet to be tested by a great BJJ guy like McCarthy
Chainsaw via Arm lock of some sort,R1.

McCarthy will see Matt Serra backstage and be haunted of the memories of Captain Miserable, allowing Bisping to win via TKO in Rd2 3-4 minutes.
