Mccarthy is the best ref in the business.He's been reffing since UFC 2.Your argument is ridiculous.Herb dean who is black,has dread locks,is smaller,and looks nothing like John McCarthy reffereed the Tito/Ken II fight not John.And John talking to fighters before a fight isn't being bisaed.he talks to every fighter before every fight.He tells them to defend there selfes at all time and goes briefly over the rules and checks for mouth piece,cup,etc.

Let's say for arguments sake that BJM did ref the match, how can you use that as eviednce if you didn't see it to know whether or not it was a bad or good stoppage?

He let the BJ Penn / Matt Hughes fight go long enough. Sad to see it end with BJ losing, but BJ had lots of time and warnings to try and get out.

I think Big John's ref'ing is consistently good, the odd match he ref'd I might say he jumped in too early, but it's infrequent enough that I can't even give you an example right now.

PRIDE refs seem to let fighters take a lot more shots and hammerfists when they're down, I notice UFC refs routinely call things a little too quick for my liking.

People aren't always finished imo.

UFC refs have to do what they do. The UFC is sanctioned, Pride isnt. It's going to be interesting to see what happens when Pride puts on their show in the U.S.

Definitely. I still think you'll see the refs letting a bit more punishment slide.
