| Ring or a cage?
I'm sure it's been brought up before (especially in the PRIDE vs UFC days) but what's your opinion as it relates to the current state of MMA. We already have unified rules of MMA but I really think that the cage needs to be the unified forum for these events. The ring really favors strikers too much and doesn't allow for quality grappling. Every time the ref has to stand fighters up and reposition them it potentially changes the fights outcome.
You don't play football on a baseball field and you shouldn't be fighting MMA in a boxing ring. What's your opinion?

both have their advantages and disadvantages, but i agree with you. i think the cage should be used and mma should do away with the ring as it is associated with boxing and professional wrestling. the cage is like a trademark for mixed martial arts.

how about the Yamma lol? I think that the cage should be the only standard. I used to laugh every time watching 5 Japanese pride guys trying to hold the fighters in the ring. Just wish they would allow the knees to the ground though, cause thats one thing pride had that the US didn't. Quote:

The cage is a trade mark for mma and draws the casual fan to the sport. The point about the striker`s favoring the ring is a good one,but Chuck is fine with it. Cro Cop to this day is still not comfortable in a cage, seems it would be something he should have been able to get used to. He did comment in an interview that he was excited to fight in the ring again rather than the cage when he left the UFC for DREAM.

having fought in both I prefer the cage. Although I have seen some awesome fights in a ring. Rampage hanging on the ropes sold me on rings.

Not this debate again well if you are watching it live I say a Ring you can see the action allot easier, but on tv I say a cage.

Pride ring was too small. if it was bigger it would have been perfect.
i actually wouldn't mind seeing a huge mat instead of a cage or ring. you know, like those abu dhabi events.

While I have watched and enjoyed MMA in a ring, I much prefer the cage. Nothing bothers me more than when the referee has to step in during a ground battle to reposition the fighters in the middle of the ring. It totally ruins the moment for me. Plus it seems like you get a lot more dirty boxing and clinch action against the cage.
