If Hughes beats Alves and I was Dana: I'd beg Hughes to go up to 185 for one superfight and fight Anderson. Granted Hughes has little chance of winning; it would be a big draw.

If Hughes beats Alves, and beats Serra then I see him retiring.
He has no intention of making another run at the title.
I just hope he wins these 2 fights then retires on a high.

Putting Hughes against Silva is a complete waste.
If anyone should be fighting UP for Silva it should be the winner of GSP/Fitch, at least they are Andersons size.
If Hughes beats Alves and Serra, he should fight for the title again since it will make him the #1 contender.
Who cares if it is 4th fight with GSP? If he loses he will retire.
But hopefully Fitch will be champ .

I think GSP has a huge mental edge over Hughes now. It showed in fight #3. Matt had no clue what to do. He seemed to have pretty much conceded the 'L' before the fight happened. | Agreed
Hughes would be a complete moron to stand with anyone, the guy has no stand up, sure he can defend a little but to win he has to take them to the ground and he knows it.
I think he wins both fights. After that I see him fighting Silva and hopefully Penn again, then the Hall of Fame and possibly co-hosting with Goldberg and Rogan.

I hope Matt Hughes is a financial position to retire after fighting Alves and then Serra. I think he's close to being ready to move on AND going out on a couple wins would preserve his legacy. Serra mentioned recently he would like to fight again in the fall. I'm assuming Hughes is taking this fight with Alves so he's not sitting around for another 5 months waiting on Serra. He might as well make some dollars in the meantime and I'm sure it's also about stepping up when the UFC needs him. In that way he's like Liddell and Franklin. Quote:

I'd speculate that it's unlikely he will do it now, no matter what he said in the past. He said that before we really got to see what a badass Anderson really is.
Mainly is was the comment about co-hosting with Goldie and Joe. Hughes isn't exactly known for his skills in that area. I'm not slamming him, it's just not his thing.

I am a little confused, which is easy to do, but I had my thread up before you did, so I didn't make my comment based on anything you had said. No big deal though.
On a side note, I noticed your pic of Neer, I used to work with his cousin. He said that their dads use to make him and another cousin fight Neer, when Neer was little as his cousins are older than Neer. I thought that was interesting, just trying to make him tough I guess. He also told Neer at their last family get together that he was stupid for starting his own gym in the same town as Pat which I agree with. Neer said he still goes to Pats and rolls with guys, so no bad blood there which is good.

I think if Hughes wins against Thiago and Serra he should just retire and enjoy being a hall of famer. It would be a great way to close his carreer really, he just got beat twice by a better fighter but if he can come back and beat a good up and comer then Serra, the guy whos talked so much smack about him, then I'd say he should call it quits.
Only fights that would make sense after those 2 for Hughes are against BJ or against Anderson if he still the champ at 185.
