Default Travis Lutter released by UFC

Quote:
Middleweight tournament winner from the fourth season of “The Ultimate Fighter” Travis Lutter has been released by the UFC.

The news was broken by Pramit Mohapatra of FightTicker.com, who was informed of the development via e-mail by Lutter himself.

Lutter fought and lost to former UFC middleweight champion Rich Franklin on April 19 at UFC 83 in Montreal, Canada.

It was Lutter’s first bout since having lost a bout against UFC middleweight champion Anderson Silva at UFC 67 in February of 2007. Lutter became infamous from the fight as a result of failing to make weight, thus forcing what had been a title match to become a non-title fight.

Lutter joins Kalib Starnes as fighters who lost at UFC 83 that have been released by the promotion in the days that have proceeded the event. The UFC is expected to pair down its roster of 200 fighters to somewhere in the 140-160 range.

I am really liking this mentality of the UFC here. Their goal seems to be to put on exciting memorable fights since they realize that they can no longer build their business around specific fighters. And if you fight a boring fight and lose, you get the boot. Seems like motivation enough to also warrant pressing the action all the time. UFC 83 was by far the most boring card this year by the UFC and as such cuts were made.

Lutter just needs to step his game up. I mean it's not like he's actually a complete fighter. His takedowns are mediocre at best, his striking sucks, his wrestling is alright, and he's got great jits. That's all he's got going for him is his bjj.

Don't get me wrong. I like Lutter, but did you see how pathetic he looked when he couldnt take Rich down in the 2nd round?? He looked like an amateur. Lutter is just a bad style matchup for certain people because of his great bjj, but it's obvious that if he doesnt end it in the 1st round, the fatty is going to gas.

Lutter needs change camps/train with some better guys if he wants to step up his game. I dont see him ever getting back into the UFC unless he makes some serious adjustments...

Yeah it not like Lutter came into some prelim undercard fight and screwed up. He didnt make weight for a freakin championship fight and then obviously doesnt train properly for another HUGE fight. If he cant get motivated by Andrson and Rich to train the he is never gonna do it...

Too bad for him. If the guy would work on his cardio, he has the potential to be a really good fighter.
