The UFC can do whatever they want with their belts, they can give it to whoever they want to give it to as far as my knowledge goes (I could very easily be wrong, but I don't think the athletic commision can do shit about the belt). They would probably give the belt to the challenger if they beat the champion even if the champ didn't make weight, thankfully even Tito was proffesional enough to make weight when he was champ.
I think what would make sense is for the champ to get stripped. The fight would be non-title but the challanger would get a mandatory title fight next fight for the vacant belt against the number 2 challenger or the ex-champ.
But of course that would probably vary between orgs and it would also depend on how big the names involved are.
i think if the champion doesnt make wait, maybe award the challenger the "interim title" win or lose, but still have the match as advertised...then, have a rematch with the champion and interim champion. may sound complicated, but i think it's fair that way the challenger who made wait, still gets something...i dno just a dumb idea.
I doubt they'd postpone the fight. they'd lose to much money. More than likely the champion would be forced to give some of his purse to the challenger and the fight would proceed as normal. If the challenger won then they'd be the new champion. If the champ won I imagine the post fight press results would confirm that the champ was stripped of his title. To me it doesn't make sense to punish the challenger when the champion didn't make weight.
Well the way I see it, it would depend on the challenger. A portion of the champs purse would go to the challenger if he chose to accept the fight, which would then be a non-title fight. If the challenger won, they would have an immediate rematch for the actual title. Whether they make a title for the first one interim would be irrelevant, because they would rematch any way and would just make it cosmetic. What I am wondering though if the challenger lost the first fight, would they rematch just because the champ didn't get the weight right the first time? Or what would happen if the champ missed weight the second time? :headscratch:
I have been watching MMA for way over 10 years and I have never seen it happen. I am also not sure what they would do in that situation. I would think they would strip them of the belt.
