In a real fight you do whatever you need to so you don't get killed. If you meant a "real" fight like on the street then that arguement is as baseless as saying "In wrestling, Penn would have pulled out a steel chair."
Yeah...in a real fight my Minnesota Vikings would not have lost to the Chicago Bears....but there are these pesky little things called rules...damn it...they alwasy get in the way...

Old school UFC it would have been interesting, but Hughes was escaping the hold at the end of round 2. His head was already out, after all. A street fight is a whole different beast, there is no way to know who would win something like that.

If BJJ became obsolete then that would mean no one would train in it, and all you would have to do is train in it and then you could submit people with ease. If people still trained in it just to learn how to defend submissions, then it can't be considered obsolete because you still use it. Obsolete is when something has no use, BJJ will always have a use because you will always have to know how to at least defend submissions. With that said, I don't think BJJ is going anywhere, it will just evolve like everything else.

In the golden days off MMA (you know...1993-1998) BJJ was the dominant martial arts form. Now...it is essential to any and all fighters style, but no longer a style that puts you head and shoulders above other competitors. This statement only applies if the other competitor also has BJJ training; if he doesn't, then BJJ is a dominant weapon.
