By the way, have you ever seen/heard Jens do the color on a televised MMA event? He is good on camera.

no i havnt..thats why i posted this thread..i know jens as a fighter..but i dont know alot about his personality outside of the ring...thats what i was curious about..he seems like he would be entertaining enough..i was just wondering how he would be as a coach..i think that people fail to realize how important the coach is...these guys are the future...with proper coaching they could be future stars...the coaches can have a huge impact on these guys career...look at season three..those guys got alot from tito..and the guys on kens team got shit..the only reason we will see ed herman in the future is because he is origianlly from team quest..and obviously was worthy already of a shot in the ufc..

Are you saying a BJJ blackbelt isn't qualified to train fighters? Cuz in order to be a black belt in anything you REALLY have to know your stuff. He might want to bring in an assistant coach for striking tho.

Yep, on point. I always responded to coaches who talked to me like Tito did to his guys. It's like you want to please them. From what I have seen of Jens on air, AND his interview after the fight where he said that he got caught and will move on, I think he would be a good coach.

Remember when Trigg lost to Hughes the second time? I think it was before TUF II. He was rumored (as a matter of fact he more or less said it to Ryan Bennett on MMAweeklyradio) to be the coach of TUF II along with Hughes as the other coach. This was contingent on him beating Hughes in their rematch, so that they could promote Hughes-Trigg III during the filming, much like Couture-Liddell. Then Trigg got choked out and the appeal of him coaching was lost.

having a black belt is a huge accomplishment..i am a black belt myself..and i could teach people tae kwon do..but i dont know what good it would do in mma..i just dont think he has been involved in mma long enough to coach 8 guys..thats all im saying..

thats very true..some schools that are set more or less to make money, have a strip test every month..depending on how many strips you need to advance..it's really only a matter of time before you get your belt..now im not saying thats how all schools operate..and im not saying thats how kenny got his belt..what i am saying is sometimes at a school with large classes..sometimes guys get a pass if they are good enough..and when thats the case the belt doesnt mean shit..and if you dont have a true understanding of whatever style you are studying..than you cant coach..

yes, i didnt mean to hint that he doesnt deserve his belt or know enough to coach, i was just trying to say that the belt itself does not mean someone is a master, not like it use to anyway, if you go to china and study judo from a master there it would take you 16 years to get your black belt and then they start teaching you the cool stuff, i've seen several people go out and spend a couple of years getting a blackbelt in tae kwon do and start thinkin there the shit just to turn around and get stomped, kinda sucks really cause it takes away from the accomplishment of someone who has truely earned his/her right to wear the black

I'm sorry, but no BJJ school is giving out Black belts in a year, not even two. If you have a black belt in BJJ it's going to be longer than 4 years to get (BJ Penn being one of the fastest BJJ black belts at 4 years). The knowledge base there is incredible, Ken Flo would have the grappling knowledge to coach but I think that's pretty much it.
