Default Tuf 5 Coach Jens Pulver

supposedly bj penn will be the other coach..i think bj will probably be a good coach..im not sure about jens though..im not saying he wont be a coach..im just saying i dont know..and supposedly they plan to have all lightweight fighters..8 newcomers and 8 veterens...8 veterens??? so does that mean that pretty much who ever is in the lw div. right now is gonna be on the show..how many vets do we have?? dont get me wrong.. i like the idea...i think the lightweights are the most fun to watch..

I was under the impression that the two coaches for TUF 5 were going to be the LW champ and the #1 contender. Which would have been Jens until he lost at the last PPV.

a few lightweight vets are at welterweight on tuf 4 right now, ie din thomas and matt serra. regardless, sounds like a good format and i hope it's successful

8 vets? I hope Joe Lauzon isn't one of them, that would be pretty awkward

This was in the MMA Weekly rumors section. Even though in the rumors section, it sounds like he is a definite for the first coach. IMO, they would be better off with doing the champ and #1 contender.

RUMORS FOR THE ULTIMATE FIGHTER 5

(page added on August 30, 2006)

-First Coach: Jens Pulver

-Probable Second Coach: BJ Penn

-Rumored Format: Sixteen Lightweight (155-pound) fighters, with eight of them being UFC veterans and the other eight being UFC newcomers

Season premiere date on Spike TV: Early 2007

It would be odd if both TUF coaches were coming off of losses. You can't really justify either of them fighting for a #1 contendership right now. They both need a win before the show tapes to do that. Jens might be able to win in December before the show starts taping, but Penn's ribs won't allow him to fight before the taping starts.

I think Jens shot himself in the foot with that loss. It takes away his cred with a loss so close to the season.

Is he talented enough? Heck yeah. He is a little older too and is well respected, which is good. I think he would be a good coach. He would be a shoo-in for the show if he would have taken that kid apart. I think the UFC might have second thoughts since the loss though.
