| Do you Believe BJ Penn's Rib Injury
...was the cause of his Loss?
I have seen debates all over the place, but I value the opinions on this particular forum the highest.
Personally, I believe that he did hurt his rib. Something happened to him at the end of the second round. BJ Penn is a true warrior in my opinion. I do not believe has was gassed out. I have had injured and cracked ribs from grappling... it is the damnedest thing, but it has happened to me... I was not hit in the ribs, I just spun, torqued, rolled and *POP - I couldnt friggin move or sleep for the next four weeks.
I believe him so I am hoping for Hughes-Penn III

It would explain why he couldn't catch his breath or raise his hands properly all of a sudden, and also why he allowed Hughes to pass his guard by defending his ribs.
I certainly believe him.
git.

it's possible, i believe it, but regardless, Matt won.
There was no controversy in this fight.

I can totally see this as the reason he lost. I was one of the people who thought Hughes would win the fight. The first two rounds though were definitely BJs. Then, as he came out in round 3, BJ was like a different fighter. It almost looked like he was throwing the fight! Oh well, that could definitely be the reason that there was such a change between rounds. But, at the end of the day, Matt Hughes won the fight. All fighters risk injury in every fight. Its part of the game. I know one thing though......I would love to see them go at it again. I thought this was a great fight and BJ proved to all the doubters that he deserves to be in the octagon with the champ.

Yeah i beleive it. That being said i think his cardio wasn't what it needed to be to defeat hughes injury or not.

i believe he might have been hurt but thats not y he lost... he says that it happened in the 2nd round but then y for the last two min of the round did it not seem to bother him at all putting on that reverse triangle or cranking that arm with his body. i think he just gassed from trying to finish the fight then got wooped 3rd round....i mean cmon he gasses against bigger tougher guys( gsp, hughes)
