Yes, there are black fighters, but I think that they are not the best ones.

For example, Anderson Silva is a great striker and he is one of my favourite fighters with Muay Thai rules. But he isn't strong enough for UFC rules and I am afraid that he will lose clearly.

Well there are a good number of black people in MMA already and there really is no conspiracy or anything surrounding it. This is kind of a dumb post and could start a racist debate which is not a good idea. Fact is if you are the best then you will have the belt no matter what the color. I love MMA cause you get to see a wide variety of fighting from all different races.

In the history of UFC there has been several non white champions Maurice Smith, Kevin Randleman, Carlos Newton, Royce Gracie, Caol Uno, BJ Penn

Caol Uno was never a champ in UFC. He had a few title shots though, against Pulver at UFC 30 and Penn at 41.

What the hell are you guys getting so excited about. The guy says he's from Europe, he's made an observation and he wants to know why. Relax

I watch a lot of Pro Basketball and it IS dominated by black athletes. Just making that observation, doesn't make it a racist comment. It's just a fact. Frankly, I don't watch enough of the other sports, so I can't comment on those.

FCardelle, this is just one persons opinion, but I doubt there not being any current black champions has any one cause.

As someone mentioned there have been black champions in the past, but you are right, there are a lot more white people in the UFC.

Like Afro mentioned, MMA is a young sport, and this is a very big country. One of the reasons for the predominance of whites is probably caused by where in the country MMA has evolved from. I'll give you one example. One of the best training camps in MMA is the Miletich Camp. It is located in the state of Iowa. In comparison to the rest of the country, Iowa has a small black population, thus you would just naturally see more white fighters come out of that camp. I can assure you that if a talented black/asian/latino fighter wanted the opportunity to train there, he would be given it.

I'm sure there are other reasons, I've just thrown out one. I think you will see over time more ethinic diversity in the sport.

Just to be very clear, I do NOT believe it is because of racism.

With regards to the thread title, there are and will always be lots of different races at all levels of mma. The amount of styles available to utilize in this sport mean that no race should have any physical advantage over any other. Also, UFC would certainly like some high profile black fighters to increase their ppv figures etc so that's nothing to do with it (obviously).
