I think it's really strange that BJ doesn't fight at 155lbs. It would be to his advantage to be a bigger fighter in that division instead of smaller in 170. He can still hold his own obviously at welterweight but it isn't his optimal weight. Almost all fighters go into a fight with a substantially reduced percentage of body fat than they would normally have, BJ does not do this when he is at 170 which puts him at a disadvantage before the fight even starts. Injury or no injury in the Hughes fight, he needs to get real and drop to 155.

i think had he mentioned his injury to Big John, they would have called a verbal tap out, and Hughes would have still won. BJ did the right thing by going out like a man with true heart, rather then giving up.

He has no reason to lie about the injury and gave Matt all the credit for the win.

Ok heres how this is!!!! BJ Penn got injured alright! have you ever heard about him complaining about something like that before. NO!!! so all of you stop being so retarded and admit that BJ Penn was dominating matt hughes, went for the back and got hurt and it screwed up him breathing and he lost the fight. I SAY REMATCH to show all of you retards that BJ Penn would destroy matt hughes, like he did in the first 2 rounds of the fight, if BJ wasnt hurt that is! thats the only way that matt hughes can beat bj penn..

I'm pretty sure it's ruled submission due to injury, like in the Lawler vs Spratt fight when Robbie couldn't continue because of the leg kicks

Your right, in a one round fight BJ can beat Matt. Too bad for him these fights are not for one round.
Does it ever matter who is winning a football game at halftime? No, because there is a whole other half to play. Same goes here. There is more than one round in these fights. The quicker BJ learns this, the quicker he can stop losing to GSP and Matt Hughes. So if the answer is more cardio then he needs to do it. If the answer is to move down to 155lb because the larger guys at 170lbs wear him down (GSP & Matt Hughes), then he needs to do it.
This whining about the first 2 rounds has got to stop. He lost the fight by TKO as Matt destroyed him in round 3. Injuries are no excuse. Maybe the poke in the eye caused Matt to lose the first 2 rounds because his vision was blurry and his equilibrium was off due to that. Does that injury give Matt a free pass on those rounds?
No matter how anyone tries to spin it the fact is BJ hit Matt with his very best in both stand-up and in submission and Matt took it all in stride and was more than ready for round 3. BJ had his chance to finish and he did not. Matt had his chance to finish and he did, and in dominating fashion.
Although BJ was injured, he was man enough to give Matt ALL the credit. In his interview he said no excuses Matt beat him fair and square, and that Matt was a much better fighter this time around both on his feet and defending submissions. Maybe some of you can do the same instead of dreaming about what might have been.

Bj hit Matt with his very best? ROFL what fight were you watching? Matt hit BJ with his very best and couldnt even BUDGE him, MAtt could not harm BJ until he was injured plain and simple and it wasnt one round, it was two.. its not an excuse ITS A FACT BJ Penn had a fluke injury that caused him to completely break down so how is this injury not relevant HIS RIB SEPERATED FROM HIM! COME ON NOW!
