Also, you asked if we had ever heard about BJ complaining about something like that before? Well, I say yes we have. As much as I like BJ and think he is probably the most talented fighter (notice I did not say best fighter) at his weight, I have yet to ever see him lose a fight without some excuse.
He has generally complained about the judges after losses. Unfortunately for him this fight did not go to the judges so he offers up a hurt rib. To his credit he still gave Matt Hughes credit for beating him, but it would be nice to one day just here him give credit to the victor and say nothing else.
I am not saying he was not injured. I am just answering your question and saying there is always an excuse after every loss for BJ.

Bj hit Matt with his very best? ROFL what fight were you watching? Matt hit BJ with his very best and couldnt even BUDGE him, MAtt could not harm BJ until he was injured plain and simple and it wasnt one round, it was two.. its not an excuse ITS A FACT BJ Penn had a fluke injury that caused him to completely break down so how is this injury not relevant HIS RIB SEPERATED FROM HIM! COME ON NOW! |
So what you are saying is BJ lost in dominating fashion right? I think that is an oxymoron. Matt hit BJ with his best in round 3 and ened it. BJ did his best to submit Matt in round 2 and Matt took it and smiled. Those are facts. Matt won that night; that is another fact.
It is not a fact that BJ had a fluke injury the CAUSED him to lose the fight. There has been no proof offered that 1) He actually had an injury, and 2) that this injury played a role in his poor conditioning or ability to breathe or move his arms. He strained his ribs, he did not break them. Strained ribs do not effect your breathing the same as broken ribs. I am a strength coach at a university and I can say without a doubt that we have had athletes finish out many games with strained ribs as this is a common injury in many sports. Strained ribs is a matter of pain tolerance, not breathing obstruction. Do strined ribs cause it to hurt when you breathe? Yes. Do they obstruct breathing? NO. Some just guys tolerate pain better than others do.
For some of you guys to not give Matt Hughes ALL the credit for being the better fighter THAT particular night is laughable. Your woulda, coulda, shoulda excuses for BJ are even more ridiculous. Why can't you just suck it up, give credit to the winner, and wait for the 3rd fight (which you know will happen because Dana White loves to make money on rematches).

Will everyone agree that if BJ Penn loses to Matt Hughes again -that MATT is the better fighter?
(Especially after Matt beats George SP.)
