UFC Fight Night 14 Scheduled For September 17th
By: Kris | May 16,2008
UFC Fight Night 14 will take place on September 17th and will be aired on Spike TV as the lead-in for the debut episode of The Ultimate Fighter 8, reports MMA Junkie.
No location has been determined for the event, though southeastern locations, specifically in Florida, are under consideration.
The UFC and Spike TV have used a similar lead-in strategy with other recent seasons of the reality series. UFC Fight Night 13, a stacked 13-bout card that featured a lightweight main event between contenders and TUF alumni Kenny Florian and Joe Lauzon, served as the lead-in for The Ultimate Fighter 7’s debut episode and UFC Fight Night 11, featuring Kenny Florian taking on Din Thomas in the main event, served as the lead-in for the debut episode of The Ultimate Fighter 6.
The Ultimate Fighter 8 will feature a cast comprised of lightweight (155-pound) and light heavyweight (205-pound) fighters. Interim UFC heavyweight champion Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira and former champion Frank Mir will serve as coaches for the eighth season. The Ultimate Fighter 8 debuts on September 17th at 10pm ET.

Why is this season not heavyweights? Coaches aside, they are centering this season around the UFCs two best divisions

There just aren't that many skilled HW fighters out there when compared to other divisions. The last this TUF needs right now is a season of lackluster fights that generate no interest.

TUF 5 was LWs
TUF 6 was WWs
TUF 7 is MWs
They're working their way up the weight divisions is why TUF 8 is LHWs.
Why do people ask questions that the answers are right in front of their faces?

The original press release when they announced the casting call for TUF 8 was for LW and LHW. There was a lot of speculation surrounding it being HW when they signed Nog and Mir but I never saw anything official that said it was going to be anything other than LW and LHW. But I do agree, they need help at HW badly, and despite what people may think, I think they need good WWs too. Besides GSP, there is a huge talent gap between him and the other guys in the division. If Matt Hughes retires, there goes another. I don't think Karo will ever be a legit title contender, Koscheck already lost to the champ, Alves will show what he's made of in fighting Hughes and I don't feel like Serra will be a contender again either. I do like Swick and Davis but both of those guys seem like middle of the pack kind of guys. I'm still a big fan of the both of them and look forward to their fight in June.
