| Ufc Pres Dana White Addresses Roster Cuts Quote: The Ultimate Fighting Championship has made several cuts from its fighter roster in recent months including Travis Lutter, Jake O'Brien, Joe Doerksen and "The Ultimate Fighter" season six finalist Tommy Speer, among others. UFC president Dana White addressed the downsizing in mixed martial arts' biggest promotion.
"It's nothing abnormal at all," White told the media via a UFC 84 pre-fight conference call. "At the end of the day, the UFC, like I say all the time, it's the place where all the best fighters in the world fight. And after you lose a few, or whatever, you have to go back down and get some wins and come back.
"The guys who are really dedicated to this sport, and they make the cut, they go and get more wins under their belt and end up coming back."
He explained, "I can't keep everybody under contract because the way that we do our contracts, depending if you're one of our big stars, we'll have you locked up for six or eight fights, or whatever it might be. They're under long-term contracts.
"Other guys that are trying to make their way up to be Sean Sherks or B.J.s, or whatever it is, they're under a three-fight deal, or a two-fight deal. Some of them are under one-fight deals. It depends."

Fighting in the UFC is like working at the office...if you do your job well you stay, if not you're out (Except if you are Liddell).

If you cant win more than 80% of your fights at the very top of the UFC in the toughest division, clearly you deserve to be cut.
Come on now, I understand that bashing Chuck and Dana is fun and all, but can you at least keep it to cases in which it kind of makes sense?

I dont really see the problem, I mean with a guy like tommy spear, he has the potential, but he needs lots of work to be a good fighter, thats obvious, so cut him, let him go get some experience and work back up to the UFC, no different than a ball team demoting a player to AAA. THe UFC cant baby all the fighters until they are mature enough to hang with the best fighters.
We get to see better fights, with the better fighters more often then having all the fringe fighters clogging up the PPV's
but ya, cut Chuck the bum...sheesh 8-2 terrible

i'm sick of seeing cupcakes all the time vs experienced fighters. so, i'm in favor of unloading the roster as needed. DW has a product to sell and we as the consumers request great fights. he's doing this to help us see these better fights and of course.....to improve his bottom line.
YOU GOTTA EARN SON!!!

The UFC is the the prime time place to fight in the MMA world if your not performing then your out and Dana has been good about leaving the door open to the fighters that want to leave the UFC and get some more experience. Guys like Tommy Spears need the extra experience and Zuffa has signed him to the WEC after cutting him. Its always good to let your lower level talent get more experience, dana is doing the right thing.

I'm fine with the talent cuts they are making. As a matter of fact, they wouldn't even be in this predicament if they hadn't kept all of those TUF fighters from past seasons. If they properly utilize the WEC and TUF, they should have a steady stream of TOP fighters and prospects coming in. Simple attrition should handle the exits.
Also, I think this is just another illustration of how another legitimate promotion can truly help MMA.

another reason I think people may get a little upset at fighters being cut is from TUF show you get to know the fighters a lot better, so you attach to them and follow them a little more and have more invested in them, but in all honestly most of them don't belong there (yet)...

I agree that most the dead wieght comes from the Tuff fighters. These are guys who just need some grooming. I just want to see the best fights that we can for the money were shelling out for the pay perviews. It would also be great to see some of these fighters fight 3-4 times a year if healthy.

Chuck lost two in a row yeah, but destroyed a division previous to that. He didn't lose a fight from UFC 47 until he lost at UFC 71.
Couldn't disagree with you more buddy...
