I'll make it easier for lazy people.

I've met a number of people in my life time who call themselves fighters just because they live in a point fighting world. If you call point fighting a real fight than you live in a fantasy world and only your reflection in the mirror have you fooled. To real fighters, point fighters are a joke because they think after having some success in tournaments winning several championships they could really fight. Even those misguided karate teachers who teach our children Power Rangers so called techniques, than tell the child they could protect themselves against an attacker.

Please, don't get me wrong, point fighters are very successful in the business market for getting students and making little Johny parents believe that their child could defend themselves which they really don't have a clue. You see this works two ways, more money or less students, you be the judge. The average point fighter never had a real fight in their life, especially the ones who just received their black belt, but they are going to teach you how to fight, I don't think so.

If you really look at a point fighter in general, they really can not fight. The average street fighter will kick their butts because they are use to fighting without gear, and they can give and take a punch. There are no rules on the street for little Johny to go by, only a severe butt whipping or maybe loss of life. You see, point fighters in the tournaments playing tap tap makes them look real good doesn't it, but on the street, the street fighter rules because you're not mentally prepared for what may happen "NEXT". I would take anybody whose been training in boxing for 2-years and put them into the ring with a point fighter whose been training for 15-20 years "WHY"? because the point fighter will do nothing but run and tap tap tap while the boxer close in taking all the point fighter tap tap taps just to deliver the knockout blow.

Real Fighters give their students a chance in real life situations when it comes to street survival techniques against the everyday street fighter. They teach their students to attack the eyes, throat, groin, bridge of the nose and the knees to stop there advancement. Point Fighters tell their students to double and tripple roundhouse kick to the head leaving their groin exposed to a counter attack. Real Fighters teach their students to use low front and side kicks to the midsection to lower the guard of the attacker so they could throw punches over the top. Point Fighters tell their students when nothing else works, start doing jumping kicks like you see in the movies because the street fighter can't see them coming "yeah right". Real Fighters will never never never tell their students to do jumping kicks in a street survival confrontation because for one, the street fighter will be moving around at all times something he mastered on the streets. Also, if you misjudge your jump kick, the ground will be your worse enemy after you hit it, and your life will belong to the street fighter.

I've been training in Karate for 38-years and Kobudo for 34-years, and do I consider myself a fighter "hell yeah". I was a boxer for 2-years at the (P.A.L.) Police Athletic League where I learned to really take a punch to the head and body from 1972-74. I trained on Okinawa, Japan from 1977-79, where every fight was a full contact fight. I even won the silver medal on Okinawa at Hanshi Fusei Kise Full-Contact Karate Championship in 1978. As a U.S. Marine for 4-years, getting into brawls and fights was natural because it was our way at times. I just completed 20-years as a Philadelphia Police Officer, and in those 20-years I been in several shootings "shot in the line of duty" attacked a number of times in hand to hand combat situation as a narcotics officer.I been in more than 150 or more hand to hand combat fights with drug dealers, robbers, people on drugs, wife beaters, boyfriend beaters, and males wanted for homicide who didn't have nothing to lose "hell yeah I'm a fighter" are you.

Point Fighters believe if you're a good fighter in tournaments then a street fight would be a walk in the park. What little do they know when reality sets in they will be saying "Oh Shit" what have I got myself into. Now here is something to think about point fighters, just because real fighters don't compete in tournaments as fighters you shouldn't be fooled by that at all, because there's no realization in combat. Real Fighters believes in the knockout or inflicking pain which tournaments wouldn't allow.

Real Fighters will teach their students to run like hell if approached by an attacker with a knife or gun to save their lives using the enviroment around them. Point fighters will tell their students "no problem", if the attacker has a knife or gun you use one of your spinning kicks to knock it out of their hands, yeah right you're "DEAD". Remember point fighters these are kids that you're brainwashing to believe they can actually disarm a knife or gun attacker.

I train everyday as though my life depends on it, and if you're a real fighter, I know you're training just as hard as I am. And for the point fighters, keep lying to yourself because reality will come knocking at your door very soon.

I feel that there is point fighting in MMA (not like Karate). Fighters that are in the fight to edge out a decision via points. That to me is point fighting, case and point, Swick in the DL fight at UFC 63, he was not trying to end the fight, he was trying to rack up points and then hold on for a decision victory.

Many People would consider Coleman, Rashad, Arona, etc. point fighters but really they are not point fighting, they are trying to win the fight the entire time (or most of it at least) it just happens to be that wrestling is their background or grappling and they do not have that deadly striking power or accuracy so they must rely on their roots to win fights.

I don't bash that as much as strikers who are point fighting to edge out a win.

Hominick vs Gurgel. This and the Swick DL fight at UFC 63 are the 2 as of late that standout most to me of point fighting wins.

Sir I will have to disagree with you. If you know what the judges are looking for in a fight (aggressiveness, takedowns and striking), you could rack up points without a KO or submission. I know I am going to get flamed on this one, but before Evans took out Lambert he was a point fighter. Do I think this makes him less of a real fighter? No. I just think that the "real fighters" take more chances and try not leave the decision in the judges hand. The "point fighters" do not take as many chances and will do just enough to get those points to get a decision from the judges. (UFC matches mostly)

No I get the point. I know that he is talking about street fighting and competition fighting. I am just saying that some of the fighters in MMA fight like real fighters and some fight like point fighters.

Chuck, Wand, Rampage, Fedor, Cro-Cop ( just to name a few) these fighters fight like they don't want a judge to decide anything.

I have said many of the same things in this article myself. I spent 3 years in my early teens earning a black belt in Teakwondo. While I am proud of what I accomplished it still kinda sucks now bc I know better than to try using any of that stuff in real life situations.
