| Dana White Rumors "GSP vs. BJ Penn New Years Eve? "
The first of many rumor threads to start, but it is a reputable source... Quote:
GSP vs. BJ Penn New Years Eve?
By Trent Cotney | June 09, 2008
In a recent interview with Sportsnet.ca, Dana White suggested that GSP vs. B.J. Penn II could happen in 2008. As the current UFC Lightweight Champion, White would like to see a few more fights for Penn (13-4-1) at 155 lbs. before moving up to fight Georges St. Pierre (16-2) at 170 lbs. White did recognize that this was the fight everyone wanted to see and said that it could happen as early as this year. He also mentioned that it might be part of the New Year's Eve show.
The last fight between GSP and Penn was an epic battle that resulted in a controversial split decision for GSP at UFC 58 in March 2006.

Holy shit, the great thing about this match up is even if GSP were to lose to Fitch this fight would still be very relevant.

I'll predict right now, for the record. GSP beats Fitch and if the Penn fight happens: GSP beats him too. I honestly believe he's on another level right now; not to say B.J didn't look fantastic against Sherk.

BJ beats GSP. I like them both, but an in shape and motivated BJ Penn not only beats GSP, but finishes him.

Agreed, GSP couldn't take Penn down until he got tired in the second... the shape Penn is now I doubt GSP can take him down and I know Penn will make him look stupid standing again... If GSP can't consistently take Penn down and lay and pray for 25 minutes he has no chance at winning this fight.
And what the hell would Penn do after a win over GSP? Anderson SIlva? Loyoto? Wandy?

It's a ways away, but Penn seems consumed with being the best ever.

Both fighters have drastically stepped up their games since the first fight which is a scary thought on it's own. I think it would be an extreme close fight but the result would be close to the same as last time. I know Penn is considerably better cardiowise but GSP will still get the takedowns. And while GSP didn't destroy Penn on the ground he certainly wasn't just laying on him.
That being said I would rather not see this fight until both fighters have put together some kind of a decent win streak as champions. To start talking about a superfight so soon after they both become undisputed champions is disrespectful to the fighters in their respective divisions.

The idea of a "true number one contender" is the stupidiest MMA idea to be perpetuated by fans and media, EVER.

Especially at LW... I mean Florian is the number one contender and he chose to fight Huerta instead of Penn. Do you ever make anything other then completely retarded posts?
