Vera's going to have to deal with it for now, chalk it up to bad luck or assuming that waiting to be saved by the bell is a legitimate defense... just as bad as leaving it in the judges hands is leaving it to the ref's discretion.

[QUOTE=TriangleChoke;476892]although I'm pissed about the stoppage, I can't wait to see werdum vs big nog after big nog runs through frank mir. After losing to Big Nog the first time, I bet werdum is highly motivated ala Chuck when he lost to Randy, so I can't wait to see this fight. I think it will be an epic battle
I have a feeling it will go more the route of ala Chuck losing to Rampage. The next one will be more convincing by Nog.

Although I do believe the stoppage was premature, Vera really has no room to complain. I mean come on...he knew for months he was fighting a BJJ black belt. You do NOT allow yourself to get mounted by a BJJ black belt, or any fighter for that matter. He gave up one of the most dominant positions in the sport and now he's complaining that he lost?
He knows the sport and knows the game, its his fault. And I like Vera and think he would have beaten Fabricio standing but thats not how it went down. Werdum has every right in the world to not accept an immediate rematch.

yea i agree with Werdum,,,i mean he is sounding a tad bit pompous,,,but i totally agree that Werdum shouldnt be worried about giving Vera a immediate rematch ,,yea it was a controversial decision and all,,but a loss is a loss,,besides Werdum is in a great spot right now with bigger and better things to worry about than B Vera bitching about a rematch

Exactly. One thing is to stop a fight because a fighter got rocked and can not defend himself anymore...but its something else when the fight is stopped when the fighter is not hurt and clearly defending himself. Vera was not rocked, dazed or confused. Horrible stoppage. I can see the ref jumping in and stopping that if it were 2 rookies in some other org, but seeing this kind of stoppage at this level really sucks.

Vera had him beat, he fuckin rocked him in the middle of the first round but just couldnt capitalize but I agree if the fight kept going that Vera woulda knocked him out FOR SURE.
I could only think watching the PPV when he stopped the first fight pre maturely that Good Ol Dan was gonna ruin my 50 dollar ppv. Its one thing for a free cbs show which I was still livid about but then the PPV too I was gonna lose it. What a horrible ref. I wish James Thompson woulda punched him instead of "pushin him away" by the face and just taken the fine, gettin fired, it woulda did more for his career then just losing to Kimbo, PUNCH OUT THE REF. Sorry I know we cant condone beatin up officials but damn it would be sooooooo tempting.

Vera himself said he was going to ride out the last 15 seconds of the round getting pounded on. The stoppage was early I would never argue that. I just wonder if Dan wouldve let it go 7 more seconds and stopped it, would we be argue the early stoppage or the late stoppage.

Yes the stoppage was a bit early, but it is not like Vera wasn't getting routed!
I agree with Werdum, he moves ahead, Vera drops back.
Vera should really ponder a drop to 205, because he is not going to hang with the big boys.

Werdums the man. Premature stoppage or not he did what he wanted to..stop Vera in a big way,and that he did.IMO he has every right in the world to be confident. He's probably next in line after Mir for a shot at the HW strap.
And once again,Intelligetnly defending youself isnt curling up in a ball and letting someone punch you 20+ times. Buck, give up your back, give an arm, punch from bottom,ETC.

I'm kind of in the middle on this one, I think Vera was honestly going to try to wait out the round and he was still intelligently defending himself so thats why I think it was a little premature. but I don't know if he would have lasted the round without it getting stopped any way.
