Fabricio Werdum was one of the winners at UFC 85, this Saturday, in England. The black belt defeated Brandon Vera by technical knockout at the end of the first round. Nevertheless, the party was marred by complaints from the American of premature intervention from the referee. Dismayed, Vera played down Werdum's vitory, inspiring ire on the part of the Brazilian.

In an email sent to the GRACIEMAG.com newsroom, Werdum commented on the episode:

"I'm very pleased with my win. I came to England to show my skills and training, I put on an excellent fight and won, in the 1st round. I can't go against the referee's opinion, they know what they are doing and if the ref hadn't stopped it then, he would have stopped it two punches later. My goal is the belt, I don't have time for a revenge match with Vera. He was in my way and I got him out of it. I'm not discarding the possibility of facing him and knocking him out again. I'm fully prepared, but first he has to go to the back of the line.

he had him in full mount with 20 seconds left and Brandon wasn't going anywhere...

Well technically a TKO is a knock out, it is just a technical one, lol.

I admit he's getting a tad bit pompus but he even though it was stopped a little early I think it was a decisive win.

Vera was not even hurt, most of those punches were not even landing...Vera was blocking most of them with his elbows.

although I'm pissed about the stoppage, I can't wait to see werdum vs big nog after big nog runs through frank mir. After losing to Big Nog the first time, I bet werdum is highly motivated ala Chuck when he lost to Randy, so I can't wait to see this fight. I think it will be an epic battle

doesnt matter...I agree with everything you're saying, but the fact is that vera got mounted and couldnt escape mount. Regardless of whether or not the punches did any damage (and they did not), vera got mounted and couldnt escape.

He needs to start training his ass off in BJJ because if he thinks he's going to be able to hang with werdum and big nog then he's got another thing coming.


I will say this and it will be the last thing i say about the vera/werdum fight--

had Mirg. not stopped the fight, I think Vera would have ko'd werdum.

Lol, that's awesome... I'd be offended about Vera's bitching if I Werdum. If Vera was even close to winning any part of that round I'd may think differently, but Werdum outclassed him in all parts of the game.

lol Werdum landed several shots to Vera's face and would have landed several more...it was stopped a little early but Vera was going no-where and would have gotten hurt.
