I love it. Giving Anderson a big, big name isn't the bed idea for his step up in weight. He's a money-maker, so testing him too quickly in his debut at a new weight isn't very responsible for the UFC. They want him to win, and Irivin is good enough. He's no can, and he's got a chance to win - but who sees that happening?

wow if they put Anderson vs Irvin, Franca vs Edgar and Vera vs TBA @ 205 all on this card that quickly, I think it shows some level of fear towards Affliction. You didnt see them counter-programming WFA,IFL or even EXC like this. Also the winner in this is without a doubt US the fans, competition is GREAT.

It'll be nice to watch a fight where Anderson isn't a HUGE favourite.
Has there been any word about Anderson fighting Wanderlei lately? Or have they buried the hatchet?
And regarding Affliction, I don't think UFC has to worry. After Fedor fights one or two decent competitors the nostalgia will wear off and people will again realize that heavyweight is the most boring weight class. So good luck to Affliction and their heavyweight specialization.

I have been waiting to see Silva at LHW but then again what does he have to prove against James Irvin? What if he looses? Irvin has killer KO power. I agree with whoever said he should fight a legit contender. Silva will also be fighting a 3 round fight for the first time in years.
I just wonder what there going to do with Anderson and the MW belt? I have been wondering about this for awhile. Common sense says that Okami is next inline for a title shot but they also keep saying the winner of Cote vs Almedia gets a title shot.

I cant think of any reason to call any one weight class "most boring" and Affliction's HW is very very very far from being boring. Barnett and Fedor alone are two of the most entertaining to watch and you also got AA and Sylvia who are huge draws. Also, where did you get this idea that Affliction is specializing in HWs? If you wanna stick to watching UFC only, then do so but its pretty stupid to come out and ridicule a non-UFC promotion for no good reason at all.
In any case, this should be an easy fight for Silva. A warm up fight for sure.

A warm up fight for sure. | well i dont think it was a case of him bashing Affliction just for bashing sakes, I agree that as a whole the HW division in MMA is the most boring to watch and that is for several reasons:1. Lack of depth, no division in MMA is as lacking in depth as HW (Boxing has the same problem) 2. The bigger guys tend to have the smaller gas tanks and nobody likes watching two gassed fighters 3. Slower, its just physics that a guy that weighs 260 is going to be slower than a 185 not in ALL cases but for the most part. That being said Affliction is showcasing 4 of the top 6 or 7 guys in the world and at that level its as exciting as it gets, there is just way more off a drop-off from the top 10-12 guys in the world at HW.

is Okami still with the UFC? No love for him? He can actually do better than Hendo.

Smoogy you always find the hardest to find stuff, rep'd.
What in the world did James Irvin do to deserve getting murdered. Oh my. If this turns out to be true, my god RIP Irvin.
For those that don't find this fight interesting, it's not supposed to be. The sole purpose of this fight would be to showcase Anderson as a legit contender at 205 and give him an easy win. Irvin is overrated, he knows it and the UFC knows it and they are going to feed that small amount of hype to Silva.
If they could manage to squeeze Hendo-Franklin on that card for the MW title, SWEET! Hendo was on INSIDE MMA a few weeks back and he said he took no time off after the Silva fight, he got right back to training and was just waiting for an opponent. Don't be surprised if he gets added to the card as well.
