| New Weight Classes? - A.B.C. Reconstructing Weight Classes
We all know the Association of Boxing Commissions will meet in July to discuss legalizing knees to the head of a grounded opponent.
They will also be discussing changing the weight classes in MMA, "Big" John McCarthy will be there and is favor of adding more weight classes, but hasn't said how many more.
He said however he doesn't want to see weight classes in MMA like Boxing where there is a six pounds difference.
So what could be the compromise? right now its a 15 pound difference between weight classes and John McCarthy says 6 pounds like in boxing is not necessary.
So I decided that they might make it every ten pounds, check out what I think they may propose, I am adding 2 new weight classes. Current Weight classes
Heavyweight - over 205 lbs. to 265 lbs.
Light Heavyweight - over 185 lbs. to 205 lbs.
Middleweight - over 170 lbs. to 185 lbs.
Welterweight - over 155 lbs. to 170 lbs.
Lightweight - over 145 lbs. to 155 lbs. What the new weight classes could look like?
The New Weight classes (made-up by me)
Heavyweight - over 210 lbs. to 265 lbs.
Light Heavyweight - over 195 lbs. to 210 lbs.
Cruiserweight - over 185 lbs. to 195lbs.
Middleweight - over 175 lbs. to 185 lbs.
Welterweight - over 165 lbs. to 175 lbs.
Super lightweight - over 155 lbs. to 165 lbs
Lightweight - over 145 lbs. to 155 lbs.
What do you guys think?
I added 2 but A.B.C. might be adding more..

It's not logical to make gap same between lightweight and junior-welter as from LH to heavy.
I personally believe more weightclasses will only bring bad things for fans. A dossen different belts in each organisation, ugh...it's how boxing's demise from one of most popular sports on planet to near-obscurity begun.

Its jumping the gun to assume the ABC is going to amend the weight classes just because Big John is in favor of it
Personally I'd like to see the divisions re-aligned so its 150, 160, 170, 185, 200, and 235

i think the divisions are fine how they are now. too many divisions means too many champions and before we know it, mma is just like boxing. plus, it may be confusing to some.

The divisions suck how they are, a 10 lb gap is perfect I co-sign this thread.

For the record I am not in favor of any more weight classes and actually hate the idea. Also why does a boxing association tell MMA what do do?

What they need to do is split up heavyweight and super heavyweight probably 206-240 and 240-275. Wouldn't do much for the UFC but heh.
