| How in the world did Wes Combs earn a chance to fight in the UFC?
Could someone who is familiar with this guy tell me how he got to fight with the UFC? Who has he beaten? What is his record? I have seen him fight twice in the UFC and both times he got his butt handed to him. He looked like a guy who was a real novice to MMA. Like he never ever has been in a dojo or have done any martial arts training. Seems like he just talked his way into the UFC. I don't know much about the guy and just wondering has anyone else seen this guy fight outside of the UFC.

He hadn't really beaten anyone of significance but he was 12-0 is why he got his opportunity. He bombed once he got his chance but sometimes you don't know how well somehow is going to do in the octagon until they get there. He fought a bunch of cans along the way making him look better then he really was. I doubt he'll ever fight in UFC again though.

There is a ton a guys u can say this for. Look at Vera's record/opponents prior to signing with the UFC. They gotta get their start somehow. Just not all the are gonna turn out tobe like Vera.

Vera beat Mike Whitehead before coming to UFC so at least he had 1 solid win prior to being signed.

I never saw Combs and actually I thought his first fight in the UFC was a learning experience for him to get used to the big stage. When I saw him fight Nickells, I was like why is this guy here. If you have seen his two fights in the UFC, you got to admit it didn't look like he belong in today's MMA ring (maybe early UFC not in today's). Even if a guy fights one dimensional, he has to have other things under his hat if his main strength is stuffed. Combs just looked like a guy who was coming to a no-holds barred fight.

wasn't he the KOTC LHW champ at the time that he was signed with UFC? Not positive, but I think I remember them saying that. When you are undefeated and have a belt in a smaller organization, the bigger orgs usually give you a look.

He was undefeated with 9 first round kos and 2 first round subs. Ive seen 4 or 5 of his fights outside of the UFC and he has a ton of power but he was never really challenged. I would love to see him fight a stiker so he can actually show what hes good at. With a good team I think he could go far. Best of luck to him and I hope to see him in at least one more UFC fight.
