Here's the thing. Anderson Silva dominated the whole MW division. I can see him changing weights and challenging new opponents, only because of lack of competition.
Now BJ, beat Joe for the title, and beat Sherk. Now, he still has plenty of fights at LW. Its not the same scenerio as Anderson, so IMO he should stay there until it proves pointless. I agree, GSP and Penn is a match I want and most people want. I just dont see how it's the ONLY fight that makes sense. I think this one needs to wait.

I agree. Penn had his chance anyways and GSP beat him. There's alot of competition in the welterweight division, so Penn should stick to the lightweight division. For now, anyways.
I hear that Diego Sanchez is fighting Thiago Alves coming up, so I say the winner of that gets a shot. Preferably, Diego.

I really don't see the point in arguing whether Penn deserves a shot. Boxing has been like that for decades. Sugar Ray Leonard won a several titles in different weight classes, outside of Welterweight did he do anything to deserve shots against the champs above that weight? No, of course not but he's popular, brings in the gate and makes his opponent more money.
And it's not like Penn is constantly coming out of retirement like Leonard to get his shot. He's the current LW champ. Also it's not like the UFC has a long standing tradition when it comes to granting title shots. There is no standard to hold them to. Penn the champ wants to fight GSP/Fitch, another champ then let it happen. Alvez and Sanchez will simply have to wait, the superstar treatment has existed for years in combat sports (and sports in general) and always will. The other WW will have to weight their turn but in the mean time they have to keep winning to stay in contention. You can be Jon Fitch, keep winning and get your shot or you can be Karo and just keep missing out on a title shot by badly timed loses.
Win and your on the Joe Silva speed dail.

Preferably, Diego. | A lot of people think Penn won that fight, so i dont know what that has to do with anything. Also, both fighters are on a different level at this point in their careers, and I think it would stupid to not let them go at it again. If Alves beats Diego, he can face the winner of Penn/GSP, that is if he can make weight this time.
Also, Diego shouldnt get a shot at the title if he beats Alves. They should put him against either Fitch or Kos before that happens, IMO.

They are both the champions at their our respective weights, and if either one drops or rises to fight and wins, then would they get both belts? I don't know how this could work. But like I said, I wouldn't mind a rematch. It would be an outstanding battle I could imagine. Quote:
