Exclamation Affliction Vice President Tom Atencio: Barnett vs. Emelianenko Could Very Well Happen

Quote:
With Affliction publicly saying that they intend to hold additional cards in the not-too-distant future, the first question that comes to mind is - who will be fighting?

Well, obviously Affliction boasts a very deep roster of heavyweights, and there are two fighters that MMA fans have wanted to see go at it for many years - Josh Barnett and Fedor Emelianenko.

Affliction Vice President Tom Atencio confirmed that Barnett vs. Emelianenko could very well happen.

"We are going to use the winners (of the July fight) for the next show,” said Atencio.

That certainly does not mean that the match-up of former Pride stars is a given, but it certainly means that fight is a distinct possibility.

Barnett, though, is not looking past Pedro Rizzo on July 19th.

"I don’t look any further then the fight in front of me. I can do all the wishing I want,” said Barnett, “The only thing that is guaranteed is the fight in front of me.”

What Barnett’s quote tells me is that a fight with Emelianenko is definitely on his radar. However, I would be remiss if I didn’t mention that a potential fight between Emelianenko and Andrei Arlovski could do a bigger number in the U.S. - based on Arlovski’s popularity. I would personally be pleased with either match-up. but I think Barnett’s advanced ground skills could make for a better match-up with Emelianenko than Arlovski’s stand-up strengths.

I think much better if the Affliction do Fedor/Barnett match first, before they do Sylvia/Fedor match for July 19th.

I would have to go with Fedor vs Barnett I think AA is good but I think Barnett would pose more of a threat then AA, which means Fedor would have to push himself harder. AA would be one hell of a fight still though.

Please Lord, let Fedor rip Tim's arm off. Let Arlovski re-arrange Rothwell's jaw. And then let these two Eastern Bloc animals square of for the world's entertainment...

Too much to ask? lol

Edit: Rumor around the city here is that AA is PISSED. Couldn't work things out with the UFC, and then that fine piece he was with is banging Timmay? The Pitbull is back, mark my words...

All i can say is that i would not want to be in Ben's shoes on the 19th...

Barnett vs Fedor needs to happen. People been wanting to see that match up for years.

My 2nd choice would be to see Fedor vs Arlovski, 2 Russian Sambo fighters pitted against each other.

Maybe Arlovski needs the love guru?

I'd rather see Fedor vs Barnett, lots of us have for years. I think he stands a better chance than AA. I could be wrong. Either way it would be another strong main event.

Both fights absolutely make sense. I'd venture to say that the true fanboys would like to see Fedor/Barnett slightly more, but Fedor/AA would be absolutely sick.

I don't like watching Barnett so I hope AA gets the fight plus as another poster has said I think it would build more revenue.
