Default thecoylewis's 10 Most Underrated Fighters

Mac's overrated fighters thread was good and sparked a ton of debate. So who do you guys think are the 10 guys that are most underrated?

These are NOT scientific picks. It's just some guys who I think deserve more credit than what they get and some are stars in their own right. They are pretty well known guys but in my opinion should be bigger than where they are.

10. Kenny Florian - The guy is becoming a beast at 155 and he's gotten one crack at the title and is fighting for a number one contender spot, but the press and internet don't really buzz about the guy. I think he deserves alot more buzz than he gets.

09. Jason Miller - With a record as good as his is and as colorful a personality as he has, he's hardly mentioned at all. Come on, he went the distance with GSP and Jacare in his career. Even in losing fashion, that's as impressive as some of the wins that some overrated guys get.

08. Scott Smith - I liked this dude from TUF and then afterwards. I couldn't believe he is in Elite and not the UFC anymore. Even in main eventing the next CBS fight with Lawler, I don't think he gets the credit he deserves.

07. Patrick Cote - He had a tough start to the UFC but the guy is one of the best fighters to come out of Canada. He had more hype than GSP coming out of Canada when he first entered the UFC. I think he's better than his UFC record would lead you to believe and think he's going to make waves.

06. Brett Rogers - Props to him for calling out Kimbo. He's going to make himself a star by dismantling the human hype machine. All the guy does is win by TKO. I'd love to see him take a swim in the talent depleted UFC HW pool.

05. Heath Herring - Yea, I know Heath is well known but why more people aren't big on this guy I will never know. He's been in there and fought his ass off with the best of them. He had Nog beat in the 3rd fight and is one of the best at HW, IMO.

04. Rich Franklin - YEA, that's right I'm putting Franklin in on the underrated list. All these fickle MMA fans run around talking about Franklin like he's a bum now because he lost to Anderson twice. People forget Franklin was doing what Anderson is doing before Anderson came along. Just because you run into the best fighter in the world, doesn't mean you aren't good enough to cut it at all anymore. How many "fickle fans" were talking about Lutter of all people beating Franklin? Give me a break.

03. Josh Thomson - He exposed the overrated Melendez and is poised to become a superstar. He will need to jump ship from Strikeforce to do it because they won't be able to keep game opponents coming.

02. Tim Sylvia - I'm sick to death of all the badmouthing that gets associated with Sylvia. This guy was HW champ twice and has one of the best records in MMA. He had a few boring fights, deal with it. There's a reason why he's fighting Fedor. Did you see what he did to Nog before he got caught in that submission.

01. Rich Clementi - This guy fights when they want him to, he never gets televised bouts anymore, and he just keeps winning. He might be the quietest guy at 155 in the UFC and is working his way to the top.

good list, except Franklin has no room on it...he is far FAR from underrated no matter what anyone says. and if he moves up to 205, he's a dumbass!

id say Herring and Clementi are the two best picks you have on the list

You left out Gegard Mousasi, Miguel Torres and Carlos Condit.

Oh yeah, and Sylvia does suck, he was the champ of a depleted HW division while on steroids.

Well, I'd say Franklin shouldn't have to be on the list but the respect that he doesn't get is why he is. It's a shame that I felt I needed to put him on the list. The guy to me is the number 2 middleweight in the world and gets treated like Tito and Matt Hughes. It's crap. And by that I mean how most people think he's done like most people say Hughes and Tito are done.

oh and after his ass kicking of Sakuraba (see sig ), you should put Manhoef on the list! lol

but yeah i see Franklin gets some disrespect. ive never really been a fan of his, but i know he's a damn good fighter, and at least Top 5 MW in the world easily. he still has hopes of doing great things at 185, i really hope the Hamill rumor is false.

btw, Hughes is done after one more fight...Tito is done in the UFC, but still has some fight in him i think LOL

Okay where the hell is Jake Shields on this list?

I would say Thiago Alves because nobody thought he would win and still thinks he will lose to Diego.. IMO there is too much love for the UFC hype out there. Rich Franklin was overrated in my book...He needs to fight Hendo and then we will see who the real Rich is.

Maybe Franklin will get some respect when he actually beats a top level opponent decisively? Until then he is still overrated

Actually lot of people are underrating Rich because of his loses to A. Silva and keep forgetting that he went through the rest of the competition.
